As long as Carr is still on the team I don't see how all of these guys think CB is such a huge need. Don't get me wrong, we aren't by any means set at CB, but it's hardly our biggest need.

Anyway...I like Johnson's cover skills, but his weight kinda scares me. I'd hate to see him try to take 1 of these 6'5 220 lb monster WR's 1 on 1.

he looks very lanky and his legs are twiggy,i dont know if he can play upto his draft position.

If we get to pick 27 and have

Alvin Dupree
Carl Davis
Todd Gurley
Kevin Johnson
TJ Clemmings
Cam Erving
Shaq Thompson
Jordon Phillips
Quinton Rollins
O Odighizuwa

and others available

I think we have very good options to pick there or trade down.

You just changed the scenario on me. They all weren't gone.

If you want a DL I would take over Johnson in the scenario Mel has mocked, I'll take Dupree. I'd also take both OL that went right after Johnson in this mock.

I don't want any specific position, but, yeah, I should've looked closer at his projection before I replied. I assumed. I'd take Dupree or either OL too. I just think they'll be gone.

No doubt. I think Kiper is way off.

Games are won in the trenches, Mel. The sooner you get it through that glorious head of hair and thick skull the better.

Preach it!

He's always trying to pair us up with some kind of defensive back!

I would have definitely taken Erving there over Johnson.

I draft talent and take Todd Gurley.

It would take a really nice offer for me to trade out of that pick with Gurley still on the board. He's an elite impact player.

I would too, unless a deal were reached for Murray or Peterson prior to the draft.

Who would you take instead? (See my post above.)

In my case, I'm not in love with the guy or wedded to any position at that slot. He just looks like probable BPA to me.

I think Owa, Cam Irving and Shaq Thompson are all better prospects honestly.

Like I said, I like Johnson, but he has some warts as well. His frame is the obvious 1, but he also has a tendency to be over aggressive and get beat a fair amount. His speed is also only average for a guy as light as he is. I also question Johnson in the 1st just on sheer value reasoning with the CB's in this draft. Personally I'm not entirely convinced he's much better than guys like D'Juon Smith, Quinten Rollins, Alex Carter, and Steve Nelson.

Edit: Just noticed he doesn't have Bud Dupree. He's an absolute no brainer at 27 if you ask me.

I might be missing something, unless they are giving up multiple 1st rd picks, I do not see it happening. I also think, he is going to be a bust.

Oh yeah they are. I've already seen some crazy scenarios presented.

One going so far as to claim a possible deal with the Buccaneers:

Philly gets #1 overall pick (Mariota obviously) and WR Mike Evans

Tampa Bay get 1st, 2nd, and 3rd picks this year and in 2016 and 1st and 2nd picks in 2017

Sorry the massive amount of hair spray does not allow for original thought penetration.
Better to use the magic 8 ball.

I don't get Arik Armstead as a mid first round pick.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what he is. It seems like the obvious fit is a 3-4 5 tech DE. It seems a bit early for that unless one thinks he's going to be more of a JJ Watt then a normal 3-4 DE.

Interesting, 3 1st, 3 2nds and a 3rd for #1 and Evans(a very valuable player). I'm not sure that Tampa isn't getting the short end of the stick there. Evans value is better then what I think you would be in essence trading for him. I'm just not sure how to accurately evaluate that move.

Agreed, Gurley is going to be BEAST!

Johnson is an excellent player and I could live with the pick if all the DL values are not there and if Gurley is gone!

I really like Kevin Johnson. He was my first pet cat this offseason and was a guy that I really was hoping would be available to us in the second round. In January I said that he might be there in the second but that I was afraid he would rise into the first with good workouts (much like my pet cat last year Aaron Donald) and when people go back and watch tape of him. He really does look like a damn good player.

It sucks that he is rising out of reach of our second round pick.

However... if all of these guys are sitting there at 27, I definitely wouldn't take Johnson.

Dupree would be a pretty easy choice if Marinelli likes him as much as I think he does. He would immediately become a big contributor to a DE rotation that would look much better.

Gurley would be so incredibly tempting, though Dallas needs defense in a big way. The guy is a brute running the ball but he's so athletic for his size. Behind the Dallas O line he could become an elite superstar pretty much right away. He's the BAP if he's there, period.

Cam Erving is a fantastic OL prospect too. I know Dallas has really loaded up on OL lately but this guy is super talented and if he's there he might just be Dallas' BAP by a long shot. He is as versatile an OL as you'll find. If he is there... I say do it. Adding really talented players is what we want to do and taking Johnson over him would be reaching for need IMO, although I really do like Johnson.

TJ Clemmings is a similar situation. Really nice player (though not as good as Erving IMO) who has fantastic athleticism for a big guy. Quick feet. Would I take him over Johnson? I'm not sure because I like KJ a lot... but it would be tempting to fix RT for the foreseeable future.

Everyone else on that list I would take KJ over.

If Gurley is what we think he is you take him. Even if you bring AD in or resign DeMarco he's insurance that the running game won't hit a snag with injuries. Crazy I know but I prefer talent to mediocrity even if it borders on overkill.

You know, now that you mention it, I think I prefer talent over mediocrity as well.
