Mel mock 3.0

While I like Peppers as a player more than a lot of people, I'm not sure that his skills match up well with the Cowboy defensive scheme. If they do take him, I hope they have a real plan and design for utilizing his versatility.

So if Peppers doesn't fit the scheme and Baker doesn't fit the scheme what player does?

I like them both. They are football players above being premier athletes. And our staff loves versatility in the secondary (B. Jones, N. Carroll, etc.). One thing I do know from watching the combine is that Mayock repeatedly referred to Peppers as the "alpha dog" of the DB group. He is a born leader, and was very impressive in his televised interview. FWIW.

He has a unique and infectious personality and appears to love to play. Reminds me of Elliott with that exuberance.

Baker fits the scheme, but as a FS. To me, Jones would then need to go back to CB.

The Cowboys don't attack their safeties near the LOS enough to make use of Peppers' skills as a blitzer. I think having him playing as a single high safety is a waste of his ability.

And LOL at Thomas at #2. I just don't get that at all.

I think Solomon Thomas is getting the Chris Long effect. A high character, good looking player with a high motor who comes from a prestigious school. Gets the media and the front office to fall in love with him and will probably be a solid player but over drafted.

I still have a hard time with some of these projections having him going 2nd overall.

There's a couple guys from the 2015 and 2016 draft that I would want over him like Bosa, Ogbah, Buckner, Armstead, ect. I'd be ecstatic if my team drafted him at 28, but not in the top 5 with all the secondary talent available.

Man if the draft fell just like this - I would be on the phone with Denver " Hey there John ol buddy, we will give you Romo and # 28 straight up for your # 20, deal ? Sweet, send it in"
With the # 20 pick from Denver, Dallas select's - Derrick Barnett, War Daddy - Tennessee.

Woop, woop.

Don't see the Giants taking a DE when they have huge money tied up in Vernon/Paul. Think they would go Cook.
It isnt uncommon for to spend a pick on a position they have a put alot of money in during FA. Gives them an opportunity to move on from those contracts once the majority of the guarenteed money is gone

Yeah but Baker is a playmaker. Peppers is not. At least not on defense.

People are selling Peppers short. It seems the logic is that he can't play a traditional SS in the NFL because UM didn't use him in that role.

That's some butt backwards logic there.

I don't think that's all that far-fetched.

I love Tyus Bowser but when did he become a 1st round pick??? Wow.
