Difference is, you can see a players potential to do great in these games.

Mendenhalls biggest problem has been toughness, and the will to play football. His own coach has called him out, and yet he has shown really nothing in the toughness department this pre-season.

Unless that changes, he's not going to even put up 700 yards rushing.

Is that at any time in his career or just this season? He probably won't get enough carries to get 700 yards this season or the next couple of seasons as long as Willie Parker is healthy and the starter. It would be the same if he was drafted by Dallas. Felix Jones probably won't get 700 rushing yards either.

I agree and while Jones may not get 700 rushing I think he will get a lot of all purpose yards.

I know from reading the Pittsburgh Papers that the Coaches think he thinks too much and doesn't use his instincts and have questioned how tough he is around the Goaline.

My wife and her family are Steeler fans. And being that I live only 45 miles from Pittsburgh, I tend to watch the Steelers. I have seen both Steeler's games and know a good bit about their players.

Mendenhall has had a respectable two games. Nothing to gush over, but respectable. He is a strong runner that can bounce it to the outside. So far from what I have been able to read and see regarding Felix, the scale between Jones and Mendenhall are about even at this point.

Both RB's are different in their respective running styles. Rashard is more of a compact bruiser with some speed. Felix is a speedy RB who catches very well out of the backfield.

Let's see where they both stand at the end of preseason.

They are saying the plan is to give Jones 8-10 carries a game, if so and he got just 150 carries, even at 4.0 yds per carry thats 600 yds...I think its a safe bet to guess he'll probably have some longer plays, and his yds per carry will probably be 4.5 or more...if so that gets him to at least 675 yds...700 is not much of a reach if he stays healthy and they do adhere to the workload they said he'd probably get

Yeah, 700 yards is 43 yards a game. I think that's a very conservative guess of what he might get.

It's not going to be 90% Marion, 10% Felix. By the end of the year, people might be surprised at how many carries Felix is getting.

i think choice wil get carries in mop up games, or games that barber gets hurt in.

There are too many balls to go around for him to get anything in a regular game

Remember when we drafted Ware and everyone immediately jumped onto the Merriman bandwagon? And even though Ware is the clear better choice now, it seems the board is doing this once again, now with respect to Felix Jones and Mendenhall. Have we not learned people? :D

Felix will be all right; just like Ware; just wait and see! :)

I agree. I don't think he'll see the ball much at all... Except on special teams.

im with you, its ridiculous. We got felix for what we need him for.Versatlity, and that change of pace. If we need someone to bash heads and break tackles, thats our guy Marion Barber. I just hope no one gets hurt jumping off the bandwagon through the season =-p

From what i've seen out of mendenhall. Now I wanted this guy at first but We made the right decision with Felix.

He has decent speed but he runs upright and looks timid to get hit. he doesnt look all that impressive at all right now.

Just saw this....

STEWART STILL HAS A SORE TOE

Posted by Mike Florio on August 15, 2008, 2:01 p.m.

The draft stock of former Oregon running back Jonathan Stewart wasn’t affected by a big toe on his right foot that required surgery. He still landed in round one, at pick No. 13, with the Panthers.

But months after surgery, Stewart’s toe is still sore.

It’s something I will probably have to deal with for the rest of the season,” Stewart said, according to Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette. “I’m pretty sure it’s going to hang around for a little bit.”

The Panthers still believe he’ll be an impact player in 2008. If he isn’t, owner Jerry Richardson’s big toe might need surgery, too, after he breaks it off in the rear end of G.M. Marty Hurney.

I agree, he is the perfect compliment to MBIII and you have to love his attitude and work ethic.
