He was on the 1972 Dolphins.

Basically, his position is that NO team can ever go undefeated again in the NFL, unless that team is the 1972 Dolphins.

Confused yet?

Yes, according to him, unless the 72 Dolphins come out of retirement, no team can ever go undefeated again.

He had a quote along the lines of "We are locked into the #1 spot and everyone else can fight it out for #2."

No team can ever repeat their feat, becuase the 72 Dolphins are the only team that can repeat it.

Then he launched into some maniacal old school rap.

With all due respect to you and Mister Morris... that analogy doesn't make any sense.

It's like saying that the end-all, be-all of football was accomplished after Super Bowl I. Who cares who won after that? The Packers won the first one, so anyone doing it after them doesn't count?

The Dolphins weren't the first team to ever go undefeated... or the first football team.

"Right now, they haven't done that. Don't call me when you're in my town. Call me when you're on my block and I see ya next door when you're moving your furniture in. That's when I know you're going to the championship to play. And if you win it I'll be dressed up in a tuxedo waiting on my bride."

I'm not sure if this is the particular interview everyone is talking about, but that one was great. The best interview/quotes of the year.

The 1972 Dolphins were the first ever team to have 2 RB's with over 1000 yards in Mercury Morris and Larry Csonka.

Ok, I'm going to say it, Mercury Morris is an idiot. There is a difference between being proud of your 17-0 team and being ignorant about it. Other teams can go undefeated, and I would probably say that if the Patriots go undefeated, they will be better than the '72 dolphins. Or at least it was a tougher feat. He said it didn't matter how many games you win, it only matters that there is a "0" in the loss column. I'd love to see 4 teams be 4-0 at the start of the season, only to have it end with a strike, and than go to Morris and say, how does it feel to know that 4 teams just went undefeated! This is why I can't stand the '72 dolphins, they get way to conceited about their record. I don't know if anyone else saw the interview with Morris AND Griese on Monday Night Countdown, but Griese said that he didn't think going 17-0 was that special. He figured the Steelers would have done it in the 70's or the 49ers would do it in the 80's because he thought those teams were better than the '72 dolphins. That it wasn't till more time grew on the record did it become special to him. Griese has the best approach to the record, he is happy that he went 17-0, but wouldn't be upset that another team went undefeated. I don't want the Patriots to go undefeated for the obvious reasons, but a part of me wouldn't mind seeing the Pats stop the dolphins from popping champagne.
