News: Parsons: 'College football is a joke'

I don’t at ALL see how introducing millions of dollars available to give to players supposedly REDUCES corruption.

Doubtful. Probably much worse. Maybe someone can offer a side I’m not seeing.

The gap between the ‘haves and have nots’ continues to widen.

I don’t really follow college sports but it does seem as if many, many of them…in football and basketball…transfer from school to school as if they are pro free agents on one year deals.
Nope, the opposite. Makes it more corrupt. Much more corrupt.

And for those who are always whining and moaning about the salary cap, this is an example of what you get w/o it.

'College football is a joke,' NFL star declares amid sport's latest NIL drama

With the 100s of millions floating around every season, it's time for college football to mirror the NFL. When disputes arise, players should not be able to pack up and leave, they should be forced to stay at the school and both sides should be forced to work out their differences just like in the NFL. NFL players who are signed to a contract, can't just say, " I'm out of here" when an issue arises about their contracts.

I can see where he's coming from

But college has made billions of players and and they didn't make a dime

I agree it should be controlled but they do need to get paid

I laugh at those claiming there will only be one super conference with twenty or so teams.

The Bowls, ESPN, the major colleges, the Networks; NONE OF THEM WANT THIS so it will not happen.

This would mean the vast majority of games would have no meaning; no importance; no one caring.
NO ONE WATCHING.

There will be at least 50+ schools willing to compete and I bet even more.

Oh shut up Micah. They deserve to be paid. They make billions off a product and all they were giving kids was free meal plans.

Maybe they could’ve made all that money and put it back into the communities that were supporting them. But how it was going was robbery.

Micah you said Penn State taught you character? You want to revisit those hazing allegations you learned there?
I like Parsons and think he made a huge mistake that he'll forever regret. But that went deeper than hazing.

The guy us talking about character. And the best joke is he really is convinced he has character.

This guy seems there is nothing that can make him feel embarressed.
He has some now. And college may have taught him that. Ive had my share of blunders. I tell people the crime is not learning from your mistakes. Some colleges do teach character and leadership. It's just the way he's saying it makes him sound like he's free of any guilt, which he's not.

That said, just because he's a hypocrite doesn't make him wrong. I think he may be a little envious that he missed the boat. I'm not trying to judge him. It's just . . . Does he think now that he's one of the best players that we forgot?

I see he has grown up some. But he's saying college is a joke. What he means is the players holding out are a joke. I'm sure he would have turned down any money in college.

"I'm trying to learn, you know, character, here, guys. No Thank You!"

Exactly, the little “every one wins little flower trophies with fairy wings on top” guys who have never been in on “character building” rituals that you get taught in the military and in college team sports is kinda what Micah is talking about. These silver spoon kids nowadays have been given everything in life because they can play catch is an issue. Now they want millions but don’t want to sacrifice to get it. Sure, I agree pay them, but it doesn’t come free!!! Work, and commit to a contract and the stipulations or get cut!!!

Yeah i'm a fan too. But its times like these where he forgets where he came from and he needs to be reminded to humble himself.

Parsons isn't wrong about college football and how NIL money has seriously changed the landscape. However, he did make the decision to sit out the season at Penn state during covid. I know he cited health concerns for his son being the factor, but he was also pretty much locked in as a 1st round pick at that point so probably not a lot of benefit for him to play.

People making decisions about college sports happen all the time. Players sit out of bowl games and skip the combine to protect their investment. The NIL money is just a new dynamic. In many respects its good for the players, but it also hurts lower conferences and private schools that don't get the same $$$ as the football power houses.

"Yall minds well just make..."

What kind of twisted use of our language is this? I can tell he didn't pay attention in college.

They get full ride scholarships. That's not an insignificant number given how much money that is, but I agree, they should get more since they're putting their bodies and long-term health on the line and colleges make bank from their play.
