I was jokin' :p: I like old metallica too, and maybe I'll go to see them too in july, but it's a joke 'cause I'm a Maiden fanatic and my girlfriend is a true (old?) Metallica fan...so it's just a...rivalry :D

I kinda thought you were kidding :D... but didnt understand the post actually. I was more agreeing with BP that referring to your post negatively.

Oh don't get me started on them. The first time I ever saw them they opened for Metallica. After that, my life hasn't been the same. :D

My first concert was Iron Maiden/Accept. First and last metal concert... that needs to change :D

Metallica began to suck when they ceased to be Alcoholica lol

That is 100% EXACTLY RIGHT!

They're in studio now from what I know. Let us all hope James is drinking again. not kidding

I think a band should just hang it up after a while and start doing different things, with completely different musicians.

If they get away from each other and started playing with different people, they might be introduced to something they hadn't thought of.

Staying in on place just makes you stagnate and that's all Metallica is doing now. Throwing crap against the wall and seeing what sticks, because it might be different.

Reworking your old hits is always a transparent attempt to recapture lightning in a bottle. From the last time I listened to them, they became formulaic, with the obligatory thrash tune (Fight fire with Fire/Battery/Blackened, etc), to the expected ballad (Fade to Black/Sanitarium/One, etc), to the occasional social commentary tune.

Right now, they're clinging to the brand name.

You really have a great idea in many ways.

  1. They drink - get the OLD Metallica back
  2. They go into rehab just before touring - make the news = great marketing
  3. WE the Fans - get some good, new Metal, Metallica
I could deal with that :D

Those days are over. You could just see it in their body language the last couple of times I saw them. It wasn't the same as before.
