Method to the madness?

First off, I’d like to state that this thread is not an attempt to defend the way the Cowboys handle their big contracts. I do not agree with how the Joneses have done business lately.

But in looking at the Parsons deal and potential deals for Tyler Smith, Daron Bland, and possibly George Pickens it got me wondering.

Micah Parsons is undeniably a great player and a top pass rusher, but he also plays at arguably the Cowboys most well-stocked position.

Could - the key word here - could the Cowboys live without him in the future?

If EZE is what early reviews suggest. If Sam Williams shows he’s back and a force to be reckoned with.

Could the Cowboys live without Parsons?

Would the team be better off with draft picks and cap space to retain the other players mentioned above?

I don’t think there’s any cap magic that would allow you to pay Parsons $41 million a year-plus and still afford Smith, Bland, and Pickens.

But if you were to tag and/or trade Parsons next year? It might then be manageable.

My thinking is that Diggs is in his last season in Dallas anyway, and his numbers could be replaced with a new deal for Bland.

So I’m wondering, are the Cowboys playing this one out and keeping their options open? Or is this just yet another example of the Joneses poor management?
Very good post with great points!!!!!

I was thinking when we drafted EZ what if exactly this young kid could come in and provide serious pass rush for us, and develop into something special, could Micah be expendable??? It would be interesting to watch. I don't think it would happen, like you stated, you don't see a way how we can retain all these players along with signing micah to 41 million (someone on here posted 46 million) I don't know how it jumped that far! We can't sign all these guys, but according to some on here, the cap is a myth and we can make it work!! lol

For all the pay Parsons guys…

Are you worried about him at all? It will take big money to lock him up. You think his arrow is still pointing up? You think he is a leader? Does the podcasting stuff bother you? Would a couple 1s make you feel better?

Don’t get worked up I am genuinely interested.

Parsons has big risk in my opinion.
If he were to get injured, or have decline in a season in terms of *sack numbers, oooooooooh the rumblings from the CZ forum!!

I dont get why he doesnt linebacker. He is built for that. Probably be more effective stopping the run also. I've never understood it.
He should be lining up all over the front 7. I would have him at pure DE 20pct of the time.

Excellent questions.

And then there's the size issue. Playing DE at his size means there's a good chance he won't last long. Think of him like a RB, get your 4-6 years out of him and move on. Yes, he's a rare talent, but paying him that much would hurt the team.
He is not a DE. Short arms and stocky. He doesn’t have the leverage needed to take on OTs all the time. Great talent. Mismanaged.

How long have you watched football?

"If EZE is what early reviews suggest"?

Come on man. I learned at 15 to stop reading training camp reports and geeking out over this player or that, with no pads on, every single year. You gotta start seeing a pattern sooner or later, and stop slurping up the training camp feel-good Kool-aid every year. Micah is a proven all pro. A weirdo, but an all pro. There are 200 new guys league wide like Eze, and all those fans are geeking out on their versions of Eze too right now. 90% of them will be nothing special, despite what the first few non contact practices suggest. IT'S JULY

Sam Williams? Come on man. Banking on Sam Williams whose done nothing, and a kid after a few practices, as rational to cut a proven star? How long did you think about this before you posted it?

EZ would take Parsons
Rookie 2nd rounder with three days of practice in shorts and helmet replaces a 26 year old, 3 time all pro, four time pro bowler entering his prime.

Makes perfect sense.

No. Houston traded Tunsil and a 2025 4th round pick to Washington for a 2025 3rd, a 2025 7th, a 2026 2nd, and a 2026 4th. And Tunsil was (is) healthy. 1st’s are hard to come by in the contemporary NFL unless you’re giving up a premium 1st in the deal. (See Jacksonville/Cleveland and NYG/LAR)
I wasn't talking about that trade. The Miami Dolphins traded Tunsil to Houston for two 1st round picks and a 2nd.

I'll believe it when I see it. Right now I'm not convinced we have any pass rush but for Parsons.

Yeah, I can't argue that. It would most likely be a team not expected to be a contender, but close to it. Like maybe Chicago. Maybe Denver. Some team like that.
Yeah Chicago scares me with him. I’m not as sold on Denver as others.

The lesson is it did not catapult them to a Super Bowl. They’re not going to trade multiple 1st’s again. They are probably ecstatic they got what they did for from Washington. Certainly less than they gave up to get him. And the 31 other teams are aware of it.

These are the kinds of deals other teams want to make sure they don’t make.

Why trade him if the return is low like this board wants you to believe?

I'm not trading him for only 2FRPs...like this board suggests his return would...

I'm keeping him and his cap hit...

100% there would be a bunch of teams interested. Players of his caliber aren't typically available.
This^^^^^fans said the same thing when we released DeMarcus Ware. He won't have much of a market, they said. LOL......he had 3-4 teams interested but his first

I hear ya, and it's a good topic. Parsons should have always been kept, him and CeeDee because they're arguably the best at their respective positions. Dak was the one they should've never paid just off the expensive price, but here we are. It would be a massive fumble to lose Micah and keep Dak.
