“No one is going to allows us just to rush, no one is going to allow us to be who we are,” said Parsons, the team’s leading sacker who spent more time playing run defense than rushing the passer against the Packers. “We got to put out this fire. Until we take out this fire, we are going to keep seeing it. If people want to keep doing their own thing, we are going to deal with this all year. We have to put this out. We have to be accountable. We have to stay in our gaps. We have to stop the run. Until we do that, it’s going to be a long year.”

Is this more of a gap containment thing vs just getting beat at the POA?

Maybe some of you XO guys can elaborate on who the culprits may be.

The answer is typically somewhere in between. For the Cowboys and I haven't watched yesterdays game nearly enough to say what the problem with the run defense was, but all year this defense has struggled heavily in two areas:

1) Outside runs / edge containment
2) Sealing off cutback lanes

Both of those are heavily an issue of gap containment and playing team defense. I'll go back and rewatch that game this week, and would bet it's a lot of the same issues. A lot of the time you dont keep gap integrity because you lose at POA, but I see a lot of undisciplined players running around, which seems to be the main thing Parsons is hitting on.

I like this kid! I hope he gets to play on a team with a snowball’s chance in hell of winning a SB one day. We’re not that team.

Sounds like a coaching issue.

honsetly while DT plays a role i think its more on the outside where we are getting killed. The DE are not keeping contain and when they do the Lbs are nowhere to be found until 6 yard down the field
You you think that's because the DT's aren't able to stop the O-Line getting to the second level. Micah himself couldn't get off the Center's block in time to stop the TD.

Ongoing issues like this I think tend to fall on either coaching or the GM.

As of right now I think this is squarely on the shoulders of DQ to fix. He deserves the credit if he does and the blame if he doesn't. I'm sure that I am in the minority but I think it gets better. The question I have is how much does the pass defense suffer.

I like it, but he looks like an LVE clone in everything except rushing the QB right now.
He's an awesome pass rusher, and the LVE comparison may be a little harsh, but he's got a lot to improve on if they're going to be required to use him as a true LB due to game script. Like he said, teams are going to stick to the run to negate the pass rush until they prove they can stop it.

I think its a mixed bag. I think the run defense is better when they have Hankins in but yes I believe the DE are also complicit in the problem and for sure the LBs both of them. Micah is beast in pass rush but hes average in run defense,
