I can't help but wonder if Hill might not have handled being inactive for the Detroit game as well as he should have. His maturity issues are well documented and given that he was the most productive of all our DTs on a per snap basis I could certainly see him mouthing off about being shelved and that rubbing the coaches the wrong way. Even if he was right.

Could very well be.
That and they probably already knew they were not going to offer him another contract, nor get a comp pick for him.

A lot folks just mindlessly think it due to the fat guys in the middle.
That's the easy thing to complain about....blame the DTs and MLB for all the problems against the run. DEs rush the passer, DBs are for coverage, and the middle guys are supposed to stop every run. Reality is its a team game, and it gets a lot easier when you have well rounded players at all positions.

There is a reason we see RBs and WRs not hit the field often because they cant block. It's the same concept on defense, just not discussed.

There's no quick fix. The team had the entire offseason to address the glaring weakness after all the talk post playoff loss to San Fran. Here we are a season later and things are looking worse than before.
Right, if it’s a talent thing, no quick fix.

If guys are blowing assignments it’s at least possible it can be better.

Well they would have gotten a comp pick right? If he left they would get a comp pick if he left as a drafted player.. I won't claim to understand those rules though. Still clearly Hill was not good enough to be kept around if he was anything close to a locker room issue. Not saying he was, but that might explain their being willing to part with him so unceremoniously. He was the one DT who consistently got penetration which is what you need when teams are trying to run on you. If you stand there and catch blocks you get put on roller skates. Forcing the back to have to redirect in the backfield is better than having him do it 3 yard beyond the line of scrimmage. If the linebackers are in their games DT penetration should result in a lot of 1-2 yard gains and even some negative plays.

The Cowboys have given up over 200 yards rushing in every game since releasing Trysten Hill after not giving up 200 yards in any game before.. Meanwhile Hill's new team gave up 66 yards rushing in his first game seeing action.
.
Probably just a coincidence though..
.
.

LOL.. Yall know I'm kidding right?
.
.
Kinda..

I will say this.. earlier in the season most of the damage on the ground was being done on the edges. Yesterday the Packers hit them right in the mouth between the tackles. They never even stopped even after falling behind two screws in the 4th quarter. That's when you know you have a real weakness.. when teams keep going at it even when the score would dictate they shouldn't.

This is going to continue to be a problem for this team.. and frankly I don't know how you address it.. Start Tank and Holston at DE? No matter what people say Parsons can't play DE full time.. He takes too much of a beating there and it's just a matter of time before he gets seriously hurt down there. At some point Quinn is going to have to admit that his 3 safety lineup doesn't work when teams are committed to running right at you. A 215 pound "linebacker" is always going to be a liability against the run. They need to school up Clark VERY quickly. He's faster than Kearse and Wilson anyway and obviously 30 pounds bigger.. He just doesn't know where to go ... yet.

Games that Hill played for Dallas in 2022 and opponents rushing yards:

Philly: 136 yards
Rams: 38 yards
Wash: 142 yards
Giants: 167 yards
TB: 152 yards

So I doubt the rushing yards against the defense has increased due to a lack of Hill being on the roster.

I think it’s telling that a lot of teams are founding success on these wide outside runs. Our guys are not winning the edge and our LBs are not defeating blocks.

Our run game woes don’t fall on a single player but I can say with certainty that LVE is major part of the problem.

Waah waah waah. Blah blah blah. Here we go again, now it’s Micah doing this kind of talking with no accolades to back it up. What a joke. Didn’t think this toxic culture would effect him so soon, but here we are. This team’s culture could destroy the best of the bests if given the opportunity.
Man it must really suck to hate the team you love.

What's that like?

It's alarming how absent he's become.

What's changed?

Injury?
Scheme?
Both?
He played off-ball LB in this game and much more in recent games than in games earlier in the season.

He is also obviously playing through an injury issue.

Can anyone point to the bad plays by Parsons in the Packers game?

Parsons might want to start shutting his mouth and get back to making plays the way he was earlier in the season. There’s been too much talking from him lately.

Outside of Tank, can you remember a DE ever making a play against the run? Me either. All of our other DEs seem to be allergic to run defense and can’t set an edge.

The only way the Cowboys keep Micah after his rookie contract is the franchise tag. He won't finish his career at the star. Dude is going to break someones bank.

It will be Jerry's bank. He's not letting him out the door.

When a player is a FA, and signs with another team, depending the value of the contract, a team may be awarded a comp pick.
There are so many comp picks awarded each year, I want to say 36 total, and no team can get more than 4 picks awarded. They go from rounds 3 through 7.

I also believe they need to be over $1 million per year, and the top 36 contracts, are eligible to qualify.

https://overthecap.com/compensatory-picks

Right now we are projected to get 3 comp picks for 2023. They will not be officially announced until March or April.
There was a poster used to post on here was 100% accurate on his predictions, But I don't think he has an account anymore. Adam JT13 or something like that. I believe once this site started using his formula, he stopped posting here.

I doubt if Hill would get an offer to quality, however he was claimed off waivers by the Cardinals. Since he was waived, so we get nothing anyway.

True, but even DLaw gets caught jumping inside and not containing. The bad part is him jumping inside sometimes nets a 5yard loss and everyone is happy about that. But then get mad when a RB gets to the edge or he gets bootlegged by the QB. That's what hero ball is.

Every once in a while, but he’s been an elite run defender his entire career.

Him and Cam Jordan are basically the bar on how DEs should play the run.

“No one is going to allows us just to rush, no one is going to allow us to be who we are,” said Parsons, the team’s leading sacker who spent more time playing run defense than rushing the passer against the Packers. “We got to put out this fire. Until we take out this fire, we are going to keep seeing it. If people want to keep doing their own thing, we are going to deal with this all year. We have to put this out. We have to be accountable. We have to stay in our gaps. We have to stop the run. Until we do that, it’s going to be a long year.”

Well he certainly needs to get better at stopping the run as well because he sucked yesterday. Let's see if they can get better in one week because the Vikings are going to certainly run the ball down their throat. They could be 2 games back from the Giants going into the Thanksgiving day game let alone the Eagles. Forget about them they aren't catching them.

He's definitely elite, but I wonder about Gap integrity as well. If his occasional freelances encourage others to do the same who are not as skilled causing overall poor run defense.
