My son had to put down a Labradoodle who was 2 and a half years old. He was born with a defective kidney that ultimately failed.

It's never easy to put down a dog. But to lose one so young and full of life is especially difficult

My 2020 began with my long-haired Chihuahua dying. She came over and snuggled next to me, and quietly passed away right there. I'm a grown man, and I was ugly-crying. I miss you, Miley Dancer!

Loss of a good dog can be devastating. I’ve had some awesome dogs that I was closer to than most humans
I grew up on the family ranch where I live to this day. Things are done differently in the country.
My Opa and my pops had no problem shooting their dogs when it came time.
Myself, I never have been able to do that and never will. I tried once. Simply couldn’t do it.
I’ve had to shoot cattle and horses for different reasons.....and even dogs that get dumped, turn wild, pack up and run cattle
But my dog. Nope. Not happening

It's so unfortunate that dogs have such short life spans. The love and joy they bring into our lives makes the pain of losing them a little more bearable.

I know this sounds crazy, but the reason I haven't bought a dog is because their lifespan is relatively short and I'm worried about the pain of losing it. I've seen friends and co-workers lose it over their pets. My boss was inconsolable once. I really want a toy poodle or a shih tzu. Maybe I'll go for it.

Its truly shocking how hard your dogs death hits. Its right up there with your grandparent dying. Its rough and hard to explain.
