I know this sounds crazy, but the reason I haven't bought a dog is because their lifespan is relatively short and I'm worried about the pain of losing it. I've seen friends and co-workers lose it over their pets. My boss was inconsolable once. I really want a toy poodle or a shih tzu. Maybe I'll go for it.

The smaller the dog, the longer the lifespan, as a rule. Over breeding can ruin that, but small dogs usually live 15 years or so, as opposed the a big breed, such as a Great Dane, you're lucky if they live 6 years.

Way I see it, with so many at SPCA and other shelters many only hope of having a good life is by people getting them, taking care of them and making them a part of their lives. What we get in return is their unconditional love. I still have 2 big Shepards, or as I call them my boys. They bring a lot of happiness to our family

Awful. Had to put my English Mastiff down 2 years ago on my birthday. Sucks bad.

Had to go thru it with my Golden in 2020, still shed tears till this day.

I had to put my Shepherd down more than 10 years ago, and I still can't think too hard about it or the tears come. Dogs are so much better than people.

Chihuahuas can live up to 20 years

My Golden Retriever lived 16 years. super great buddy.

Gosh, that is incredibly painful. It's so hard to lose a pet.

That is how old my Golden was before I had to put her down. She had cancer and given her age did not want to put her through the treatment, vet agreed with me. Last thing they vet did was make mold of her paw print and gave it to me.

I don't wish it on my worst enemy...I've had to do it 5 times over the years and it never gets any easier...just gut wrenching and my heart goes out to him.

I had 4 that all passed in between 2020 and 2021 (15, 15, 14 and 12l).

I haven't really recovered yet...

Kept a pack of beagle rabbit hounds for 35 years, still have 2 geriatric retired hounds that will eat here until they die. They’ll join the graveyard in the backyard on that miserable day!

..this Christmas was one year anniversary of losing my beloved Cat. I lit a candle for her, still difficult.

So we all can feel, what #11 is going through.

Had to put both my boxers down. It's sucks. I at least stayed there with them and saw them through to the other side. I miss Emmitt, and Emmitt Jr. They were damn good boys.

My goodness, that's horrible. I put my long time dog down on 2019 cuz her spinal cord went out and she couldn't walk. I hugged her and petted her ears until she took her last breath. Then I cried for 2 days straight, and at the time I was 45. Just gut wrenching.

I got a new dog, Dallas, named after a certain sports team and she's healthy and doing good. She's 3.5 now. But man that pain of putting Chewie down was horrible. I feel dogs are superior to humans in every way.

Yea, been there done that a few times . The most recent was in July on his 14th birthday…….gut wrenching and it still hurts.
