Let me introduce to you one of the best doggies ever. Hammonds' Vampira Azul" was her papered name, but she was Blue Clues to my kids. I true ambassador to her breed. This is how Pitbulls are supposed to be around humans. I think about my baby all the time. It wasn't easy letting her go. I think I kept her a few days too long. I know she's in Hammonds Animal Heaven waiting for us all, but I miss her terribly here on earth. She had the prettiest smile. I can't post a Youtube links here but if I could I would show you guys a funny video of here smiling and trying to get out of trouble from eating a bag of powdered donuts and a box of chocolate pop tarts while we were gone. I can't wait to see her again.

I know this sounds crazy, but the reason I haven't bought a dog is because their lifespan is relatively short and I'm worried about the pain of losing it. I've seen friends and co-workers lose it over their pets. My boss was inconsolable once. I really want a toy poodle or a shih tzu. Maybe I'll go for it.

I can promise you, the love and joy of having a good dog is worth the pain of losing them. There's nothing in this world as loyal and forgiving as a dog.

You don't have ANY idea how much I needed this thread right now...it's making me realize that I'm not alone. We had to put our little dog down 3 weeks ago, and me and the wife are just gutted beyond belief. I am home alone during the day, and look for ANY reason to be out of the house....and then when I do get back home, I just lose it. My prayers are with anyone ever having to go through this...not sure that I can ever go through it again.

I've had 4 Beagles over the years. Three are now gone and each broke my heart. My latest is 7 yrs and I'm not sure if I will get another. Its rough to deal with and people without pets don't understand.

My yellow lab Sunny collapsed and died in front of me in June. It was horrible watching it. I've also put down two prior dogs at the animal hospitals. I also ran over my cat of many years I grew up with. It all sucks but is worth it for while they were alive.

I seriously think dogs are one of the only good things left in the world.

I've had lab retrievers since I was a young buck and hunted with them all.
They all became my close companions and we were inseparable Scout is 11 years old now and we still hunt together quite a bit slower than when he was in his prime but he is always excited to go

I have dug A lot of holes in my time and handmade a lot of headstones and markers for the graves.
As I have gotten older the pain of losing my companions is more severe I absolutely dread the thought of losing Scout .

My prayers go out to Micah for his loss

A comforting word to those who have lost these wonderful companions of cats, dogs, and other non human friends. If you pay attention to your dreams you will on rare occasions receive visits from your friends. It can be hard to realize this in the dream state, but awake you will realize it.

The utter joy they bring FAR overrides the pain when they leave this earth IMHO. I've come to realize my current jack russell terrier is very therapeutic for me. I know it sounds goofy as I'm a grown man and should be able to deal with life's ups and downs on my own but hey....I love that lil' guy. He is by my side for every Cowboys game too. He knows when things are going bad...lol. Like I said, make the leap: you won't regret it.

BTW: I'd like to suggest adopting from a rescue organization. Always one no matter where you live. We've done that the last few times and struck gold on each one: A border collie, terrier and yellow lab mix. Just my two cents...good luck.

Putting your pets down hurts bad, its like losing one of your family members.

I had to put my Lab down a couple of years ago, he was a big dog around 175 pounds and was about 7 years old. I dug the hole myself in my backyard and bought a nice tombstone for him. Every day when I leave my house I look over to the corner of the yard where I buried him and it makes me sad, even years later.

I was thinking about getting another dog, but I have a new baby girl on the way, so I dont know how much time I would be able to devote to the dog vs my daughter. Maybe I will get a cat instead, house cats live a LONG time. My parents have a cat that just turned 22 yrs old, LOL.

Had to put both my boxers down. It's sucks. I at least stayed there with them and saw them through to the other side. I miss Emmitt, and Emmitt Jr. They were damn good boys.
When I was about 3 or 4 years old we lived in a duplex Neighbors had 2 Boxers Played with them all day long even rode them like they were horses They are great dogs

Yeah, very kind natured, easygoing dogs. I think most dogs are though, but my boxers were a riot.

I had Emmitt trained so well I could fart, blame it on him, and he would then leave the room. I'd pull him out of his shame and reassure after dying of laughter. Lol.
