Do you think the Cowboys should take a flier or Johnny Manziel or RG III?

Michael Irvin: It's an interesting concept. These quarterbacks have an ability to run. Tony has an ability to elude. Understand the offense that the Cowboys run. It's really a pocket passing offense. Troy Aikman ran it to perfection. I would take either one of those guys over what we had playing early on as a backup to Tony Romo. If you could change their game so that they could be a little bit more of a pocket passer and use their ability to get out of the pocket.


Could Kellen Moore be a backup for the Cowboys?

Michael Irvin: I like what I saw out of Kellen Moore. I like the command that he showed in a short time. Remember he didn't have Dez Bryant on the football field. But we're gonna need more than just two quarterbacks.

If Manziel really did go to Vegas and miss that treatment, how much does that hurt him if Cleveland does part ways with him

Michael Irvin: Let's be real. I'm sure football is important to the kid. It's not the smartest thing in the world for him to go out there. There could have been 50 other top players that could have gone to Vegas and nobody would have said a thing. But Johnny has to understand who he is. That kind of disturbs me. That so many people are looking to bring this kid down. He's young and he's not making the best decisions. But I feel like some people are looking to bring that kid down, which I just find amazing. Any little thing you do becomes some kind of indication that you don't take football seriously? It flat out blows my mind. Dez Bryant goes to New York and he's not playing. Football's not important to Dez? We don't say that. I know the kid. He has to be smarter. But let's not say he's not taking football seriously. You don't have to be a monk to take football seriously.

If you take the time to read Irvin's comments, he is not unreasonable in what he is saying.

Gronkowski blows up the dance floor, it's cute. Manziel does it, he is raping and pillaging.

What he does not seem to get is that you do not do that when you are a celebrity QB.

That's the reality of the situation. When you're a QB, there are rules that apply to you that otherwise wouldn't if you played any other position.

If that's too demanding then by all means either find another position or find another profession.

That's what it all comes down to, dependability. If a team cannot depend on their QB to be active and prepared to play provided he is healthy, they have no chance at competing.

They're the highest payed player and most significant piece in determining how good a team can be. There are plenty of jobs where responsibility isn't an absolute prerequisite. QB is not one of them.

Exactly. Gronk is either the best Tight end in football or one of the best in the league. Johnny is barely a starter in the league, and recently was in rehab for the same thing he's gone back to. I understand that young millionaires want to party, have fun etc... But you can't really compare the two.

The truth is, none of us know anything about the real Johnny Manziel, we know he has made some mobile videos and has a reputation but nothing substantial, fortunately the Cowboys have access to more information than the analysts on ESPN or NFLN to come up with a reasonable conclusion.

I think the issue I have with Manziel isn't with the off-field stuff. It's the going to rehab...for whatever reason. Coming out and basically doing the same stuff that pushed you into rehab.

And nothing about his on-field production really pushes me to overlook that.

Manziel has not shown anything that he will be a great or even a very good QB. But how many of us can say we watched his every play too.
But IMO, from what I have seen. no Thanks.
But this will be a topic of the media on through the draft, because it will get clicks and sell papers until then.

We know what he's done on the field so far in his short career. Average.

I throw his on the field play out the window. He has only started 8 games in his career for one of the worst organizations in sports. He has shown some improvement and potential in those 8 games(what little I have seen). I would bet his numbers in his first 8 games are in line with some great QBs.

I would also argue most of us probably don't know a lot about his play either since I know I don't watch a lot of Browns football, I am sure the same can be said about many of us passing judgement.

And here's the thing... For me....

1. He was freaking out about slipping out of first round. It was more important for him get picked. He did the panic/ promise call, "You won't regret it/ I won't get you down", to the Browns.

They do.
He did.

Now.... On to #2

2. He clearly has some major issues BUT ... He is trying to manipulate/sabotage his way out of Cleveland and into Dallas.


I thought he was worth a flyer.. He still might be but I don't like the character displayed in 1 and 2....

Michael Irvin is actually my favorite Cowboy player of all time....and I am just speechless.

Did I miss something? Forget all of the off field transgressions....can Johnny actually play?

Why would a team....who is DESPERATLEY trying to get back to the big dance...bring in a player....at a position that important....who will make more headlines for what he will do OFF the field. And who is not all that good on the field to begin with? This is the culture that Jerry has created. Even ex-Dallas greats who have won titles have drank the Ringling Brothers Barnum Bailey kool aid Jerry is serving. If asked a question about Johhny Manziel...I would say "Next question"!!!!!!!!!!!!! But since the Owner/GM loves the spotlight...he talks about any and everything. And the trickle down effect....is that means you get the Darryl Johnston and Michael Irvins of the world talking about a player who cannot even play!!!!!!!!!
