if anybody saw the little girl Paris, you would know that it wasnt a travesty
or a media circus or a waste of time and money
it was her daddys funeral.
if you choose to be upset over all the rest, you missed the point.

I didn't miss anything. The guy died a half a billion dollars in debt and he has a solid gold coffin. The family puts the state, which is broke by the way, in a position to ask people for help to pay for this circus. The guy was a pedophile and died because of a probable drug overdose and he is hailed as some kind of hero.

And yet, soldiers died this week as well and nary a word.

Yeah, I missed something alright.

And yeah, it was a travesty.

Just curious, if this was Elvis Pressley's funeral (and if he would have died recently it would have been HUGE) would you be saying this?

[CAVEAT]I'm not saying Elvis because he is white or trying to make a racial issue, I just know you are a big fan of his (based on the other thread) and his stature is on par with Michael Jackson[/CAVEAT]

As I stated before, I don't know if I quite understand the mentality that says "More important things are going on and they are covering (insert celebrity of choice)'s funeral".

Folks, that is how society works. The Rich, Famous and Infamous are always going to get top billing. In the age of the Internet and 24 hour news network age, you are going to have this type of coverage when a super famous person dies.

People who dislike this better get ready because some INSANELY famous people like Muhammad Ali, Liz Taylor to name are few are up there in age and the coverage will be similar.

All things being equal, heck yeah. But it wasn't. IT didn't cost 4 million dollars to bury Elvis. He also didn't die broke. He further wasn't a pedophile. He did however abuse drugs so you are right, he is on par with MJ in that sense. And no, it isn't because MJ was black.

On another note, I believe Mariah Carey's version of I'll be there is better is the best.

I would have no problem with someone like Ali. Or Taylor even. But once again, it needs to be stated for the record, neither one of them were pedophiles, nor, to our knowledge abused drugs.

And to give THIS kind of attention to someone who was all of the above is asinine. And while I KNOW this is going to happen, it doesn't change the fact that it's a travesty.

I'm not saying you don't like it because MJ was black, I thought I made that clear in the Caveat.

I just suspect if it was Celebrity you liked, you wouldn't have a problem with the coverage.

If Elvis Pressley would have died in the Internet Age, it would have been HUGE and depending upon where his funeral was held it would cost some bucks for his funeral.

And yes, Mike did die broke but he had some very valuable assets and once liquidated should satisfy creditors.

Michael Jackson was aquitted of all charges, even Bill O'Reilly was making this point.

[/Insert the cliched "But OJ was also acquitted" response here]

Just like everyone on this earth, the guy had demons. However, he did alot of good, so I am not going to judge him, that is for someone else to do.

The self-righteous anti-MJ types are getting pretty annoying. More so than the faux fans. And that's pretty bad.

I doubt many other celebrities will see this type of coverage after their deaths

Michael was huge, and weird, those two qualities attract alot of people, plus he was cut down in the prime of life

You are missing the whole point. OK, so MJ broke even at the end. Yay for him. Great accomplishment for someone who had the world by the arse. But again, whether I liked him or not is irrelevant, (I actually did like some of his music) the point is that this thing that went on was a travesty in light of the current climate(California being broke), the state of the man's personal affairs (Drugs, pedophilia etc) and the fact that since he died, there has been an effort by his family to profit from his death. (See his father's interview at the BET awards a few days after his death. Side note, read about it, didn't see it myself)

At the end of the day, Elvis, John Wayne, or anyone else I liked, had they been in this very same situation, I would feel the same.

Please.

When Anna Nicole Smith died, though it wasn't as big as Michael's, she got coverage for weeks and she was not even that famous.

When Elton John, Paul McCartney, Liz Taylor, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan etc etc die, it will be HUGE, especially Muhammad Ali.
