Former teammate in Seattle, FB Michael Robinson, just said on NFL Network when asked if Michael will be the starting RB: "I believe Michael will be the starter if given the opportunity. He is an explosive one-cut runner." He added that in Seattle, Michael was asked to do a lot of things (i.e. zone read, etc.), whereas in Dallas he will be asked to just run in a one-cut system behind a premier offensive line.

I just saw the segment on the NFL Network and he also talked about how truly excited Michael was about returning home. I truly hope that he's given the opportunity to try to earn the starting spot. The talent is definitely there though.

This is something I've been struggling with today. Can anyone offer insight as to how Seattle's zone blocking scheme differs from Dallas's, and how Michael's skill set plays into that?

Without digging into it, my initial reaction is that it won't vary much where it matters. Michael's running was never the problem. It was his ability to do other things well, like not get his QB murdered, that kept him off the field. But I would like a more in-depth analysis from someone who's actually dove into film study.

Stop reading the bs pass blocking crap. It's ridiculous. Maybe the reason why he didn't get much playing time is because the Hawks had the 2nd or 3rd best running back in the game.

This could possibly be one of the biggest trades to happen in a long time.....possibly

I think he is right. Might not happen right away but a change of scenery will work wonders for this kid. He has great talent. He is a Cowboys fan and wants to be here. He is back near home. And best of all is it was a low risk deal.

I don't think they are looking for that much out of Michael. What we really lost with Murry leaving was that guy you can hand the ball off to over and over again in the 4th quarter to close out a win. If Michael can do that kind of work, it's well worth bringing him in as part of the committee.

Biggest difference are the Zone read concepts with the back having to understand he may or may not get the ball under his arm.

Not sure Murray really closes out many games in the 4th.

I love all the excitement ab Michael's.. I hope this trade becomes highway robbery, but till then.. McFadden will be the starter that Randle will spell regularly. But if McFadden proves to be what some think of him.. Well, Michaels will have his best opportunity since he's been in the league.
I'm personally rooting for all of them..all four (yes, Dunbar too) are uber talented despite their individual question marks. The Dallas Cowboys let the league's leading rusher chase the money. How did they replace him? By a Commitee approach that includes very talented, motivated, younger Runningbacks that are chomping at the bit to run behind the leagues best OL. Each one of them realize the pot of gold that could be waiting for them.. Demarco Murray. So, Let the games begin and let the best RB lead us to Lombardi VI!

McFadden won't start. He would never last without getting injured. He will have a complimentary role to Randle.

I think C-Mike's integration into the Cowboys' offensive system will be a gradual process that will utilize him in the beginning with those things he does well and gradually build into his increased participation. It's also not overly difficult to visualize him having enough success to become increasingly more active with the progress he'll be expected to undergo. In other words, I wouldn't expect he'll take over the RB duties by storm, as much as a matter of gradually proving himself capable of being a consistent performer. It's simply the way this staff works. Maybe he'll become a starter eventually but it's not like it's destined to happen overnight by any stretch of the imagination.
