Michael Sam in St. Louis preseason games

My point is fans are the ones acting like children while players at Mizz and now Dallas have no issue. People need to grow up

You or I don't have any idea about what every one of his teammates feel, there have been reports that not all of his teammates felt the same way and no one should expect them to. We're all grown ups here who happen to have different opinions, so the "grow up" comment is unnecessary.

And mine is just as relevant as yours....on this message board.

However none of OUR opinions matter to the FO who is the ones who will decide if Sam plays on this team or not.

Hence the reason I posted what I posted.

He was basically saying pass as in he doesn't care for the player. He never said he personally makes decisions for the team etc. You really took his comment and twisted it.

Mature enough to deal with what? I'm not in the locker room and I have no affect on what they do, but I don't have to like him being on the team. His talent doesn't match the media circus that follows him, that's why I don't want him on the team. The only person that I don't want on this team for personal reasons is Josh Brent.

His talent? based on what your vast experience as a scout? lol Yes media made a big deal out of it to get reaction. This move is no fricken big deal it is not hurting the Cowboys at all. Mizz managed to have a very good season because in the end it does not matter, it is all about the game not this other BS. It is about playing the game and as for rookies he did a decent job which is why he is now on a PS like 319 other rookies who are now on practice squads. All the talk out of this team today has been 1 thing getting ready for the 9ers the Sam story is no big deal

You don't think it's a big deal but the media does which is the point. The media didn't know about Sam while he was at Mizzou and Sam wasn't on the scout team at Mizzou, but he is on the practice squad on the Cowboys and it's ridiculous that it is being covered the way it is for a guy on the practice squad, that's the issue.

Players knew at Mizz. As for the media again who cares, a guy should not be given a spot on the PS because the media may say something?

Yes, the players knew and not all of them agreed with it, but that's not the point. I'm not arguing the point about his sexuality, my point is his talent doesn't measure up to the hoards of media concentrating on a guy on the practice squad. If Michael Sam had Jadeveon Clowney talent, this would be a non issue. I've heard about Michael Sam more than any other 1st rounder that was drafted, that's a problem.

Then blame the media, I agree that the media is the ones making fools of themselves and? If Sam had Clowney talent he would not be on PS, Sam has shown some good things this pre season, he has had a very good college career and has a chance on a PS by a team looking for all the defensive help they can get in a defensive system some feel is a good fit. I don't know if Sam will make it or not any more than any other player.

I do blame the media, but the media is a part of Sam's football career now, and since Sam has marginal talent, it's not worth it to keep him unless you're Jerry Jones. If the Cowboys defense is so pathetic, and it may be, then why isn't Sam on the 53?

and so Sam deserves no chance because the media dictates it? Damn not a good way to run a team basing who you bring in on what the media may do? So this is all Jerry Jones ok, then give the man credit for all players on this team who are very good talent as well. Personally I don't think it is Jerry alone I think as with all other personnel moves it is a group effort not Jerry alone. As for defense being in need they have brought in others as well some with more experience and even some of the other PS players are defensive players. Boatwright is not ready for primetime and I never said Sam was both are guys who will have to develop they may or may not that is part of why they are on the PS.

Yes, being a distraction can get you run out of the league, there's a list of guys that fit this description. Playing in the NFL isn't a right, either you have the talent to do it or not, sometimes even players with talent get cut for personal reasons or distractions to the team. More talented guys get the benefit of the doubt, we all know this, which is why if Michael Sam had 1st round talent, no one would have a problem with him, even if the media was there just because of his sexuality and not because of his football talent.

The dude was a hell of a player in college. I would love to see that type of play transfer on to the field in the NFL. I'm rooting for anyone who can help this team right now. I honestly feel like he's going to be a contributor on this team.

Despite what some may call distractions, Cowboys Pro Bowl running back DeMarco Murray says it just part of wearing the star on his helmet.
“It would only be mind-boggling if you’re not strong enough to handle it,” Murray said. “We know what’s at stake. We know that we wear the star so we’re always watched. Just got to be man enough and mature enough to handle the situation. We know what’s at stake. We know we’re focused on the 49ers. Everything else really doesn’t matter.”
What was Murray’s reaction when he found out the Cowboys were signing Sam?
“It was just like my reaction to when they sign other practice squad guys,” Murray said. “It’s not a big deal. If he’s here to help us win then you treat him like any other guy. It doesn’t matter.”

Man, I really like everything I hear from Demarco Murray. It bums me out that it probably is not going to make sense to extend him, because he's just a cool dude that gets it. On every topic.

I would not rule out Murray returning. I think how things go this year will determine that. If teams like SF can find ways to keep a back like Gore as long as they have or Seattle with Lynch and yet still build other areas of the team then so can Dallas.

I'm not ruling it out. I just think he's very likely to be legitimately worth more than the Cowboys are going to be willing to pay. I think DM is going to have an impressive year.

But if the market for RBs is really soft, that'd make me pretty happy.

Every time the Cowboys do anything at all I know the first thing that comes to my mind is OH NO WHAT WILL THE MEDIA THINK AND/OR SAY because that matters... somehow.

Hard to say, this is a copy cat league and fact is the 2 teams in the NFC Championship and then SB winner were both teams who ran the ball more than they threw it. Even last night Seahawks had 31 runs vs 28 passes.

I thought it was very necessary and timely.

I'm so glad we signed him. He will play this year (and you will grudgingly like it).

Sam is not a distraction. The media attention will fade and he will become what he already is. That's just another talented defensive end.

Sam played in about nine quarters in four preseason games (3 v NO, 2 v GB, 1 v CLE, and 4 v MIA). I counted 2 sacks and 3 pressures. Here are the sacks:
Both sacks came in the 4th quarter when it was 3rd down and forever (19 & 21 respectively). Flynn tried getting away but Sam closed the distance quickly. Manziel was locked in on his receiver and he got blindsided. Two of his pressures were because he was not blocked. The other pressure, Sam got by a block with speed.

Sam would have had 2 TFL's this preseason but he missed both. One was on a shotgun hand off. He got through the line quickly and had the RB dead to rights but he whiffed on the tackle. The other play he split a block and got to the ball carrier about 2 or 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage. He was just behind the RB and goes for the tackle but couldn't wrap up and the ball carrier turns a negative play into a positive one.

Sam played primarily LDE. St. Louis had Sam line up as RDE for one series and he couldn't do anything. Sam doesn't have enough speed or the pass rushing moves to compete on the weak side right now. We need RDE's.

I was a little surprised that Sam can play against the run. He's stronger than I thought. He can handle 2nd team RT's. Sam was able to set the edge by using his long arms and a good base. He would be an even better run defender if he could shed blocks quicker.

Overall, Sam has some ability but he needs work. He isn't quick enough to win with speed only. Especially against better competition because he struggled against backups. Sam isn't going to overtake any of our defensive ends on the roster. He isn't good enough. He does have a nice motor and he doesn't give up on plays. I think the practice squad is where he belongs. He can get more work and in time he could turn into a player.

he's a sack artist
