This is a surprise,I would have thought he would not fit the mould of a high motor RKG types we like,I really dont know if he would even fall to us at 28.I remember Mkendichi(sp) last year had similar effort questions last year and he ended up being benched by Arizona.

I just read a scouting report that likened him to Nkemdiche. Same type of talent, same type of potential motivation issues.

McDowell is an absolute beast at times. He said in the combine media interview that he had a bunch of nagging injuries that maybe he shouldn't have played through in 2016. Could either be an excuse or the truth and would explain why his motor wasn't always on. The coaches/scouts will have to determine where the truth lies in that. Makes sense that he's in for a visit because if we can get the best out of him consistently he will be a steal at 28. I don't care where the pressure comes from, we just need more of it.

Agreed
This guy can be a beast but you can't teach work ethic and desire
The FO should do their due diligence

Sorry but if he drops to #28 you MUST seriously consider him. He is that talented.

I think the chip he would have out of the embarrassment of going late and the reminder of that chip from Maranelli every day would turn him into a one man wrecking crew.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I think he is more talented than Nkemdiche.

But just look at Arizona. I bet they thought he would be outstanding to pair with Calais Campbell and he did exactly zero last season.

It was October before they even let him dress, it was that bad.

That is nice to imagine and the player himself has vowed to make teams pay.

Honestly though, when there is this much out there about work ethic and underachieving, how often does that kind of player deliver on what they say they will?

All I can say is that it comes down to risk.

Anyone want to spend #28 on a player that takes six months to figure out "how to be a professional"?

If you need me to explain his problems with coaches and motivation, you really don't know much about the player other than watching a highlight video.

I see people questioning his desire, there isn't a lot of hard evidence. He played through a bum ankle this year.
I'm on the fence with him personally, I would only take him if (realistic options) Watt, Bowser, King, Njoku, McKinley and Conley are off the board as well. The guy has loads of talent though and doesn't seem like a bad kid so he would be worth a shot at #28.

Your absolutely right. I haven't really looked at him because I assumed he would be drafted in the top 10, being considered the best Safety in this draft. But don't bother responding, because I read on after my response and got more info on why he could fall. Given those issues, I doubt the Cowboys would take a chance on him, but I certainly could be wrong.

I would play this kid at RDE on base downs without a second thought. Why try to speed rush and bend the edge when you can just throw the LT at the quarterback every down? As for his motor, if he demands the level of attention he did in college I don't care if he never leaves his stance. McDowell, Collins, Thornton, Irving- that line will get some respect.

This guy is an elite talent. Could have been a top-10 guy, maybe top-5. If you can't get up for a chance at an NFL-type of payday, what can you get up for? Maybe he's just young and dumb, but maybe he's just dumb and lazy. We've had our share of talented and dumb guys and those typically don't work out too well. Dez is the exception because he at least is willing to work hard.

I'm not in a position to write the guy off, but the coaches and FO needs to find out what (if anything) motivates the guy before picking him.

He screams Bengals draft choice to me.

Well a few scouting reports have reported that he had locker room issues - getting in fights with teammates, mouthing off to coaches, etc. He also showed on tape that he often times would freelance thinking he could make a play and it cost the MSU defense because he was out of position.

No doubt he's a premium talent. But the questions about him are endless in terms of consistent play, character, etc.

IDK, all I see is him taking games over... watch him play against Wisconsin and Notre Dame, 2 of the best OLs in the country, and NO ONE could block him all game long

all i see is him getting stone walled inside... I watched his Notre Dame Game and he was in 3 man line several times head up on Tackle and did pretty good from there, not sure if he's a scheme fit here

He is like a lot of these talented players in this draft, tough to see how some of our rigid schemes will get the best out of them. We are still trying to figure out Crawford and Irving.
