The Cowboys have a new kicker, and he is one of their former kickers.

The club reached an agreement with Shaun Suisham, who kicked in six games with the Cowboys from 2005-06, according to a source, on Monday not long after he finished an audition at Valley Ranch with four other kickers.

What's not known yet is how the Cowboys will make room for Suisham. They could cut Nick Folk, consider placing him on injured reserve or release another player and carry three kickers on the 53-man roster.

Folk has made just 18 of 28 field goal attempts this year and has had a miss in his last six games, including a 24-yarder Saturday at New Orleans.

Suisham's time in Washington came to a close two weeks ago after a missed 23-yard attempt against the Saints. He made 18-of-21 kicks on the season, however is three misses cost the Commanders' two wins.

And now he gets to return to FedEx Field Sunday with the Cowboys able to inch closer to a playoff spot with a victory against the Commanders.

The Cowboys worked out five kickers Monday, including Suisham and Steven Hauschka, at Valley Ranch, but Folk and David Buehler did not take part in the competition.

NFLN just reported too

:laugh2:

Rev up the billboard campaign if that happens.

What if he makes the game-winning field goal against his old team? That would be sweet.
He did it to us before... I think he should return the favor if he gets the chance!

Again, I think it's easily possible. We cut scrub defensive back Cletis Gordon now that all of our other DBs are healthy, and make Folk inactive each week.

The only glitch is if we need to pick up a player because of injury.

Release Folk. Hes toxic right now, nobody will touch him.

Then maybe let him audition next year after he sees a psychiatrist or something

They should put Folk on IR and sees what happens with him in the offseason.

Wade said he was meeting with Folk at 12:30...so he has already met with Folk. If he was going to be cut we would already know about it. I am betting he goes on IR...probably has to have some medical exam first? Dunno on that part...

Why? It's highly doubtful they'd go back to Folk, even if Suisham fails in DC or the week after that. They'd just cut Suish and move on to Plan C.

I dont think so, the Lions pretty much did the same thing with Kitna last season.

I'm hoping that Suisham goes to Washington with a BIG CHIP on his shoulder. It would be sweet if he hits every field goal he attempts.

I wouldn't rest my search for a kicker. Not sure if Suisham will last a week at Valley Ranch.

The search should NOT stop here. Keep looking just in case.

There is no way we would keep 3 Kickers on the roster. My head would explode.

Looks like we are gonna be drafting a kicker again.

I hope he makes a lot of extra points. ;)

I understand the need for a new kicker: Folk is just not getting the job done, and it's a critical time of year.

What I don't get is the idea that a talented PK can just go bad forever. It's about technique. He had the hip problem, then surgery, then recovery and something screwed up his technique. That can be fixed - though it might take time.

I'd love to put the guy on IR, but I don't know how you sell that. (I've suggested elsewhere a call to Tonya Harding and an iron bar, but that's a bit extreme). The NFL frowns on using the IR to put healthy players in storage. And I could see keeping 3 PKs on the roster. You only get to use 45 guys on game day anyway. Depends on how depth and ST personnel would stack up.

If it is Suisham, at least he knows how to kick at Fed-Ex, especially in extreme conditions.

Does anybody know if they've been working with Buehler to start grooming him for field goals? I saw a quote by him recently and he said he realizes that he's going to have to do more than kickoffs if he wants an extended career in the NFL. It would be nice if he could get to the place of being our sole place kicker. It would free up a roster spot.
