I think Romo is worth a king's ransom in draft picks but even I see this as Mickey being the shill that he is for the organization trying to drum up a bidding war for draft picks. They would be better off just going dark and letting the other teams hear crickets and wait for them to come calling. You can't buy a Tony Romo QB at K-Mart.

What are you saying? That this article could sway other teams into giving up assets for romo?

No. I am saying that is what Mickey is trying to do. I didn't say it would work. Keep up with the bouncing ball son! Watch the bouncing ball!

It's not far fetched but it is probably not smart either.

He's the back up now and it's not like he's going to take a pay cut to stay.

So what's benefit?

I actually think keeping Romo is a great idea. I just think this is a pretty piss poor transparent attempt to convince everyone we are willing to keep Romo. It screams desperation.

I suspect that staying in Dallas is not on the absolute bottom of Romo's list.
I think it's possibly ahead of retirement, and almost certainly ahead of playing for a really crappy team, in crappy weather, with a crappy oline and o-coordinators......that would be last. :muttley:

At this point, I just want something to happen. Traded, released, FO announces he's staying on board, what have you.

The wait and anticipation is the worst part of this.

The smart play is to say nothing and proceed as though we are planning on keeping Romo for 2017. If no one makes a move we keep them. If they blink and come to us, then give them "the bonus package" if you know what I mean. Stop trying to sell it. Romo sells himself, and if not he is worthless in a trade anyway.

The other option would be to say "The bidding is open for Tony Romo. We will keep it open until the the draft starts. After the draft starts the bidding is closed and we will keep Romo if we don't get what we want out of him, we will keep him as our backup."

Then I would draft a QB in the draft if the opportunity arose (BPA at our pick) and make that QB the inactive 3rd QB with the thought being he could replace Romo in 18 or supplant Romo once a QB went down and a team panicked and offered us the farm for Romo.

What is a kings ransom?

Brett Favre at Romo's age coming off an MVP caliber season fetched a 3rd...I would be ecstatic if we get a 3rd.

A 37 year old QB with a two year shelf life at best that hasn't played in two years isn't worth much in today's NFL. Not to even mention his bloated contract and the fact that he hasn't had a full 16 games since 2012.

I really wish he was worth more, I am just preparing myself for the meltdown when he is released because some people have completely unrealistic expectations. There will likely only be 2-3 decent fits, that hurts his value even more.

A 3rd would be real nice.

I guess a trade up from 28 to 20 equals that in value. And if they actually want the 3rd they could drop back down somewhere.
