Will McClay - Running backs in the NFL come from every round

There are still around 14-15 RB’s left that could easily come in and be the best RB on the team TODAY!!!!! I think they’ll get at least 1 RB, 1 NT, 1 LB, and 1 WR today.

Hope so.

We are getting into the scrubs now.

I know the DB was too much to pass on, but one of the OH St. RBs would have been a huge pick for our offense.

RB scrubs don’t work.

I have said this for many years.

Running back is the one position you should throw numbers at, not high draft picks.

The Cowboys should draft one or two running backs in the 5th to 7th rounds and sign one or two undrafted rookie free agents every year.

You just need to hit on one of them every couple of years to maintain a solid running game without overpaying for it.
So you wouldn’t have drafted Zeke ?
Or Barkley , Chubb ,
I have seen too many running backs in the NFL, not just with the Cowboys, have amazing rookie seasons only to fall off after their first or second season.

I always attributed it to fresh legs and less overthinking during their first season until their team adds more thinking and less instincts to their game after their first season.

Whatever the reason, it's just not worth investing high round draft picks on a position with so many replacements available.
so you wouldn’t have drafted Zeke ?
Or if they were available
Barkley
McCaffrey
Chubb
Jacobs
Lynch
Lewis
Peterson
Tomlinson

Dylan Sampson and Tuten are still there, please trade up and grab one of them.
Trade up?????? NO. There will be RB's available at 149.

There were 37 picks in the 3rd round. Only 1 RB was taken. Teams know this is a deep draft for them and can wait to get one.

You should be GM!

Of course you can get just a guy late, but I thought part of the lesson from last year was that you wanted more than just a warm body back there.

Not sure why some think you need real talent at every other position, but anyone who can fog a mirror is fine at RB.

And yet, five of the six leading rushers last season were 1st round picks.

The leading rusher and 2nd leading rusher in the league last season were 1st round picks.

The RBs for three of the four teams that played in the conference championships were 1st round picks.

Seven RB's have been SB MVP, six were 1st round draft picks,

Of the seven RB's to make the Pro Bowl in 2024, four are #1 picks, three are #2 picks.

Talent is an issue for RB squads.

Yes, you can find RB in any round. However, the highly productive RBs in the NFL, the ones you see often in the playoffs are generally taken in the 1st and 2nd rounds.
4 out of 5 super bowl wins by the Cowboys (at least) had 1st round RBs with Dorsett and Smith.

Seems like Dallas used to do that in past drafts
3 years in a row they could have made an upgrade here and chosen not to. I can't under estimate the position either. Going as far as bringing back a wore out runningback after letting him go makes one kinda, well scratch his head in disbelief.

Holy crapp, et tu Brute? McC, that is a fan thing, not a thought a GM should have. Last time I looked a year or so ago, 26 of 32 starting RBs came from rounds 1 and 2.

Name all these awesome RBs that were taken in the mid rounds. Yes, you occasionally find a Pacheco after the 3rd round, but that's the exception.

McClay, for all that's holy quit spewing fan crapp.

I said in another thread, but will repeat here since its on topic… I like Brashard Smith in the 5th. We are going to platoon RBs, so get a home run guy who can catch. The guy is a baller, but not a bruiser.
