Next five years?

I think it will be the following:

Tiger (PGA)
LaBron James (Cavs)
Vince Young (Titans)
"Dice" Matsuzaka (Red Sox)
Greg Oden or Kevin Durant (Currently Ohio St. and Texas)

Kevin Durant, hands down.......this guy will be the next BIG player the NBA will be able to market due to his leadership, personality, character & game. And not only is he a young and talented superstar in the making, but is the epitomy of hard work, dedication and has the drive to be the BEST player of all time. I know that players say that all the time.......but this guy REALLY lives and breathes basketball so the big money will not change him.

When America gets to meet & hear him, he will come across very polite, humble and team-oriented. But don't let that fool you, he is the most fiery and competitive baller you'll find. It's hard NOT to like the guy.

Anyway, mark him down as THE most marketable player within the next 2 years---and especially if he winds up playing in a major market in the northeast, i.e. Philly, New York, NJ or even Boston.

1. Tiger Woods (Retirement is the only thing that could stop him.)
2. LeBron James, F, Cavaliers (He still hasn't even reached his potential. Scary.)
3. Ryan Howard, 1b, Phillies (I think he may be assaulting HR records.)
4. LaDanian Tomlinson, RB, Chargers (May be cementing his legend as the best ever, or closing in on that designation.)
5. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (Whether you like NASCAR or not, this kid is a human gold mine for them.)

Interesting choices Hos... but I think Tiger could still rake it in even in retirement.... isnt Jordan STILL selling more than current players? I think Tiger could do the same.... (Elvis rakes in $40 mil/ year DEAD) WOW

Lebron.... I like this guy... but something doesnt seem right... he seems to lack what the greats do... he seems like its "I got my money and I will do what I want" he doesnt want to take winning shots... I think that weighs on fans...turns them off....

LaDanian - lets see... need to see one more year from him... see how he responds to the adversities.... he is a freak... but whats to market for him and how many are really going nuts over him?

Ryan Howard... need to see more... maybe the REAL guy to break Maris' record.... no "help"

Dale - they seem to love Dale... dont know too much about his draw....

Matsuzaka doesn't speak english well enough. Phil Hughes is the name to watch from a marketing standpoint five years from now, he'll be playing in the top market and he got the "it" factor.

I don't think Young speaks well enough to have a ton of commercial potential either. Romo has a much better chance if he delivers on the field thanks to his speaking ability and his ethnic background.
In the next five years or the next five minutes? If Bo Jackson learned to speak these guys can.

And some of those in the know have told me that Matsuzaka is going to be good but not great pitcher after seeing him throw this spring.
Sucks that he never got to throw in a real game before his career went downhill.

David Wright has to be in the discussion. Plays in a huge market and seems to be building a Jeter-like following in NYC.

Dang, you beat me too it ;)

DW and Jose Reyes are gonna explode in NYC, but David is gonna be HUGE and if there are a lot of people that don't know, they will soon.

Will Lance Armstrong be a factor in 5 years? He no longer races.

If Reggie Bush lives up to the hype, he will be huge in marketability in 5 years. I am not counting on it myself because that is a lot of hype to live up to.

LeBron and Dwayne Wade will be there in basketball. They are both still so young and should continue to get better on the court and both have a charisma about them that marketers love.

I really liked the Dwayne Wade commercial where he gives away the hoop, basketballs then the SUV to the coach. Rides away on a bike, totally cool.

There's a few holes in his game that started to show in the second half last year.

He's 23. Jeeter hit 19 HRs and had 84 RBI when he was 23. Ryan Howard was 2 years away from being in the majors when he was 23. DW had 23 HRs and 116 RBI, hit .311 with a .381 OBP. He had a few errors, but what you call "Holes" could be the fact this was his second full year in the majors. The guy has missed 11 games in 2 years. Ive watched just about all of his games and he has no "Holes", just things he can improve on.
