I may literally lose my mind if we do nothing noteworthy along the OL and spend another 1st round pick in the secondary.

I'm with you.

Matt Johnson was a massive reach and is a long shot at best to ever play a meaningful down in the NFL, He's AOA part 2

You don't pass on someone like Vaccaro because you have Matt Johnson

I'm sorry, but I think it is hilarious that anyone would refer to a fourth round comp pick as "massive reach." They could have picked me and it wouldn't have been a "massive reach."

Not if you understand the NFL Draft.

Matt Johnson was a huge reach.

Agree. We need intimidating cavemen on both sides of the trenches with thick skulls, not pretty boys.

Assuming he is not injured all the time, I bet you're wrong on this one RS

I still want to bring in a safety in Rd 3 or 4 and a vet. ;)

The safeties we can get in the 2nd and 3rd round won't be that much of a drop-off from Vacarro. I'd rather go OL or DL in the first. I'll pass on Vacarro. Get a vet safety like Barber, a 2nd or 3rd round safety, and see what we have in Matt Johnson. Spend the 1st wisely; e.g. No Vacarro.

A massive reach? Really? Massive? 4th rounder, right? Massive? Really?

Source, please?

He's from a d2 school, spent the year on IR and didnt even participate in TC. You need a source to tell you its probably not a great idea to go into the season counting on him?

No, I'm just saying just because it's your opinion doesn't make it true. I think Matt Johnson can at least compete for a starting job.

fwiw

Matt Johnson was a comp pick after the official 4th round had completed.

The official, pre-comp pick, 4th round ended at pick 127. The Giants took all-world TE Ardien Robinson at pick 127, btw. He played in no games last year, no surprise.

Then there were 8 comp picks and the very last one was Matt Johnson at 134. The next pick was Rd 5.

BTW, I would not have taken Johnson there. But then again, I knew nothing about him.

I'm sure I would have taken Josh Norman. Norman was a bit of a pet cat, so the end of the 4th round / beginning of 5th would have been sweet.

What, because we drafted him high and his youtube highlights against division z looked OK?

The guy was injured in college and couldn't make it out of an NFL practice alive.

We all need to be honest and admit that he was a gigantic reach and anything he provides to this team will be a plus after his awful rookie season.

He has given us fans literally NO sign of even being able to play a down, so I don't remotely understand how he could 'at least' compete for a starting job

I don't think it's a question of what he does from here. He was a reach in the draft. You won't find anyone who had him with a 4th round grade other than the Dallas Cowboys, apparently. Not a single person on this forum so much as mentioned his name in any mock, pet cat list or UDFA priority list before that draft. No draft resource I look at considered him a draftable player or a priority free agent.

I won't say he can't play in the league yet, but he certainly was a massive reach when he was picked, IMO.

Trust me sunshine, I "understand" he NFL draft.

Apparently you don't if you dismiss the value of a 4th round pick.

I would have taken Josh Norman with that pick. Pet cat still on the board...no doubt I would have taken him.
I had no idea who Johnson even was.

I do think he'll stick though.

I lso liked Marvin Jones more than Danny Coale just a few picks later. Time will tell, I guess.

No, because scouts such as Broaddus have hinted at Johnson's potential and what the Cowboys think of him.

No offense to anybody, but I'm taking the former NFL scout's word who has a Super Bowl ring over any fan on an internet forum.

New rule for cowboys:stop drafting injured players.

'Defer to the expert' doesn't always work. Fans can, and have been plenty of times, be right. And the scouts and pros too. They are human like the rest of us and are capable of making mistakes.

These same experts hung on to former 4th round reaches for years (Stanback, McGee) even though it was long apparent they offered nothing to the team and were terrible picks in the first place.
