Been meaning to start a thread on what people think about him. So far I love our offseason and actually am glad to see we're trusting a talented young draft pick to step up, but does anyone worry about how he'll do?

Obviously Scandrick can start if he struggles, and OS may beat him out anyway, but I think the plan is to give Jenkins first crack at the RCB spot. (And even if OS starts, Jenkins will be on the field a lot in the nickel.) I love Jenkins' talent, and after some initial concerns when we drafted him, I do think he's a good kid. But there have been some whispers about him needing to improve his study habits (from Brad Sham), and my gut feel is that he may have mental lapses. I could be wrong, but that's a concern of mine.

How do people feel he would do as a starter?

Im just worried that we don't have an insurance policy behind him.

He can play the ball well.

His biggest problem was he didn't know where to be sometimes.

He should know the defense this year which would allow him to play faster.

That play he made in the 1st Philly game was amazing.

he's definitely got the skills and size to start at Henry's RCB spot, and go up against the bigger corners in the NFL there

he's not the smartest player, but he has great catch-up speed ala DRC

I certainly don't worry about his ability, but I've been skeptical of him since before the draft when one of his college coaches said he needs to be pushed constantly. To me at least, that was a red flag, and I didn't see anything to make me feel any better last fall.

I wanted Antoine Cason, who may not have been quite the athlete that Jenkins is, but had a stellar repuation as a worker and playmaker.

I still wish we had a veteran CB to add to the mix.

Outside of Newman, the rest of our CBs are fairly inexperienced - and we only have 4 total CBs as it is (including Ball as a CB).

We'll probably add 1 more in the Draft, but I still wouldn't mind a veteran just in case . . . .

I'm not worried about Jenkins..I think he had a hard time adjusting to the NFL, which is perfectly normal. He needs to study more and take it upon himself to get better every year. Jenkins could be a very good CB in this league for years and he's still very young(22) and Scandrick is also (22) so they should mature after another year.

I think OS and MJ could make a great CB tandem for years to come..

He is a player I am worried about.

Especially when ware said there are guys on this team who need more discipline and need to act like men plus check their ego at the door.

I think jenkins is one of the guys he is talking about.

If he has his head screwed on straight he has all the talent.

I also have faith in alan ball. So hopefully we already have 4 corners and I imagine another one will be brought in via the draft or the left over free agents.

I'm completely confident with any mix of Newman, Jenkins, and Scandrick.

I think Jenkins played well for a rookie. I am hopeful he improves this year, but I think you can win in this league with Jenkins playing at the level last year.

Now Alan Ball, on the other hand, that guy might be the worst player to ever get playing time for the Cowboys. He gets burnt or commits a penalty in practically every play he plays.

This one play gives me hope but the other one where he whiffed on a tackle leaves me with concern. All in all the guy has to grow up sometime, why not now?

I just hope he "gets it" because honestly he looks a little lost or at least like he's late to catch on a good bit of the time. He doesn't look like he has that "football player" mentality to me. But, of course, he was a rookie. I guess he also has the misfortune of being in such a good draft class that his slow(er) progress stands out.

Such a myth. Cason actually had better Combine numbers, IIRC.

I;m not worried at all. I think the reason Henry isn't with us is because they feel confident that he can start at the position. In the latter part of the year he was playing decent football and really coming into his own.

Cason had the same 20 yard split. Other than 10 and 40 times, Cason had better numbers. Of course, people only ever look at 40 times and think someone is the better athlete (even though Cason's 40 was only .07 slower than Jenkins')

All the scouts said that Jenkins had the catch up burst and footwork they look for in a corner and Cason was the one that didn't have the catch up burst.

His tackling techniques and willingness to mix it up are major concerns. I sure hope he drinks some courage juice for the 2009 season.

Agreed. He could borrow some aggressiveness from Scandrick. And as others have said, major concerns about his willingness to study. I get the sense he may be one of those guys that was comfortable getting by on athletic ability alone.
