The dude was fired. I can only assume he was fired because he wasn't doing what they wanted him to do, which was continue the aggressive defense that Wade brought.

That's exactly what I read happened. When they were struggling so much mid-year, some of the players were supposedly complaining that Cottrell wasn't sending enough people like Wade had. I think he actually did better on that later, but Rivera was really Norv's guy and he went ahead and made the switch.

What you and BAT mention worries me a lot for when Wade is gone, but I'm trying to just focus on this year right now. :)

ok, and despite what he played in college, he was being looked at as a zone-corner

don't you twist facts enough as a lawyer, or do you just do it on here to hone your skills?
An internet site or two had him labeled as a zone corner. I have no idea if any scouts did. I wouldn't understand why, since he has good speed and fantastic agility. And clearly the instincts to play man coverage.

NFLDS says he's just adequate pressing, and doesn't have great top-end speed and closing burst to recover if beaten

Jenkins is afraid of contact.

That is your opinion. He had one bad play that can be debated, and I stuck up for him. I saw Anthony Henry pull up on Jacobs near the endzone in that game, but he got a pass. He wasn't about to crash into Burnett and didn't appear to have outside contain, either. It wasn't talked about.

Mike Jenkins played very well in that dime corner role last year. He did what the coaches asked him to do. He could have done more. Phillps didn't start Shawn Merriman. That says it all. When Jenkins got more playing time, he played good. He made two nice plays in the Washington game. He looked good against the Giants and Ravens. He was lining up inside and outside while Newman shadowed guys.

Even though he didn't start, he made a solid contribution last year.

Mike Jenkins (just like Felix Jones) was one of Dallas' best players the day they drafted him. I stand by that statement. He just didn't have the NFL experience. I expect him to come out ball'in this year. He has some good experience under his belt, and he can be as good as he wants to be. He has all the tools.

It's a shame Jenkins wasn't on Fitzgerald in Arizona, because he has really long arms. He would have given the Cowboys a better chance to make a play on the ball Fitzgerald caught over Henry.

I just hope he "gets it" because honestly he looks a little lost or at least like he's late to catch on a good bit of the time. He doesn't look like he has that "football player" mentality to me. But, of course, he was a rookie. I guess he also has the misfortune of being in such a good draft class that his slow(er) progress stands out.

Thats been said about Rookie Corners a million times.

We look good at CB. Ball is supposed to be able to play in this league. And he put on 5 lbs so he's now a beast.

Of course generally when we look good at a position then bad things happen so I take it back.

I pointed out in that very post that he's excused because he was a rookie.

Some quick tidbits about Jenkins:

-I had the chance to watch Jenkins live throughout his career at USF. Many of you nailed it on the head in regards to make-up speed and mental lapses. He reminds me more of a "Pup" Smith than anyone. There were times you would not hear his name one iota, and then there's those games where he was constantly picked on. Fortunately, the games I mentioned in the latter were few and far between when he garnered more experience. I really believe he'll be successful, but he has to get comfortable first.

-I met his cousin or uncle...can't remember which...at a car dealership in Tampa. It was tough to weed through the biased love he showed Mike but he did say he started off the same way in high school (inconsistent, uncomfortable) but came into his own during his senior year.

I like Mike Jenkins and think he will be a very good pro. As many have already stated, if he studies and works hard he will be able to play faster without having to think too much. Having TNew to learn from should help.

I'm excited to see Jenkins and Scandrick full time.

not worried about them at all. That game against Tampa Bay where they shut down the Bucs was enough to see that it can be done. Newman on the field only makes us that much better.

No, the real shame is the coaches thinking that Henry could even remotely cover Fitzgerald. Absolutely no excuse for that.
