I feel comfortable leaving Jenkins out on in island covering a WR...He's probably the best man to man corner that was taken out of that draft..you could argue DRC is better, but still....

Jenkins will make the probowl next year. YESSIR!

This one play gives me hope but the other one where he whiffed on a tackle leaves me with concern. All in all the guy has to grow up sometime, why not now?

That wasn't a whiff. I can handle a guy whiffing if hes a CB. Getting a CB who is a great tackler is rare. Nearly all CBs whiff at times.

But that wasn't a whiff. That was complete cowardly avoidance of contact.

I've gotten over that and expect to never see it again.

Hopefully he isn't a guy who needs to be pushed. This team doesn't really have a pusher on staff. In all reality, the most accountability the players will be held to is from the other guys on the field.

Given the choice between more talent with lesser work ethic or lesser talent with more work ethic, give me the hard worker.

I am not dissatisfied with Jenkins at this point but if he turns out to be an ******* with his head in the clouds, I'll get pissed that Dallas passed on a guy like Cason. Probably not pissed like Hostile pissed over Cason but pretty damn upset.

Cason had the same 20 yard split. Other than 10 and 40 times, Cason had better numbers. Of course, people only ever look at 40 times and think someone is the better athlete (even though Cason's 40 was only .07 slower than Jenkins')

Which is nothing on the football field. Knowing where to be and playing smart would easily make up much more than that on the field.

Not saying Jenkins is dumb and Cason is smart. Just pointing out that deciding solely on numbers is stupid, but of course most already know that.

I don't think Hostile got pissed at taking Jenkins over Cason. Although he liked Cason he also knew Jenkins was considered the superior talent. Most were surprised that Jenkins was available.

which is why Cason is a zone corner
except cason played exclusively man coverage in college and has the speed to beat d Jackson to the ball on a go route.

it's Ted Cottrell, man, who Charger fans complained about his soft defense, and the guy who replaced him after he got fired, Ron Rivera, is from the Tampa-2

Cottrell was brought in to continue Wades style of defense, which was über-aggressive in San Diego. It doesn't matter what Rivera was in since he wasn't the coordinator at the time. And by the way it was Lovie that wanted and ran the Tampa 2 in Chicago, not Rivera who has a history in agressive defenses.

then wouldn't the same apply to Rivera not running that D too? the closest he came to actually running a D was coordinating the Bear's Tampa-2

I was just thinking he might be if Jenkins flopped and Cason shined. I would be if I was pimping a guy that much.

I think he will do fine.

Going forward I'm glad he is back there and not Henry. Hopefully this means we won't have to overpay for those free agent CB's any more.

I think Mike Jenkins is going to take a big step forward this season.

Orlando Scandrick seems to get the majority of the media's attention and not without reason, but Jenx will hopefully come into his own next season and prove what he can do.

I am curious, do you know anything about riveras background?

cause theogt is right, he is from all out aggressive defense, being the coordinator in chicago just added to his resume.

just a little fyi.

Been meaning to start a thread on what people think about him. So far I love our offseason and actually am glad to see we're trusting a talented young draft pick to step up, but does anyone worry about how he'll do?

Obviously Scandrick can start if he struggles, and OS may beat him out anyway, but I think the plan is to give Jenkins first crack at the RCB spot. (And even if OS starts, Jenkins will be on the field a lot in the nickel.) I love Jenkins' talent, and after some initial concerns when we drafted him, I do think he's a good kid. But there have been some whispers about him needing to improve his study habits (from Brad Sham), and my gut feel is that he may have mental lapses. I could be wrong, but that's a concern of mine.

How do people feel he would do as a starter?

If he works hard, he'll be a probowler within 3 seasons

He's definitely got a ton of ability.

DRC, Talib, McKelvin, and Flowers didn't have Anthony Henry or Pacrat taking snaps away from them in training camp, practice, and games. They took their lumps on the job and got better. Jenkins could have started, but he was drafted by a team that is too cautious with starting rookies.

Mike Jenkiins had a top 15 grade from the Cowboys. He played very well last year and survived the Rams game. What about the Tampa Bay game? Jenkins looked every bit the part of a good looking, starting player in that game. He should have won the job in that game.

Mike Jenkins is a bigger, stronger, and faster version of Asante Samuel. He jumped that route for a TD in NY, and that was vintage Samuel. Plus, he held up nicely inside after Newman came back. Some people said he couldn't play inside, but he sure did good. He kept Greg Jennings out of the endzone last year. He saved a sure TD and loss on that Eagles play. Phillips commented on how well Jenkins played at the end of the year. He did have that hamstring injury that cost him a couple of games. However, the entire team had injuries.

I think he will be the starter opposite of Terence Newman, and I think he's going to be a really special player.

Cason > Jenkins
Scandrick > Jenkins

Why is Jenkins going to start over Scandrick? Jenkins shouldn't even have a star on his helmet
