Mike McCarthy should have been calling plays

I think MM had an idea before he accepted the job. But he also wanted to see how it went. As he said he was not familiar with it or the terminology. But he did not want to change it, and said he would learn it. As changing it up would not have been good at the time.

I think after his 2nd year he knew a change was needed. As Dak was injured most of the year with a broken ankle, so hard to evaluate the offense. But it took the 3rd year to convince Jerry (KM being his next 10 year coach in training) to go a different direction. And as he was also more familiar with the overall schemes and terminology. So he now knows what needs to change.

Complicated stuff and topic. I suspect MM would have liked a new OC long ago...probably from the beginning of his coaching stint at Dallas. But trouble was Moore was a pet favorite of Jerry Jones (and likely Stevie) much like Jason Garrett was for a long time. So, big Mike had to go along to get along. But you have to understand that he wanted to be an NFL head coach and there are only 32 of those jobs in total. And still to this day there is some prestige in being Cowboy head coach...not as much as in the past...but still some. So, IMO, MM did what he had to even though he probably did not really like it.

MM should have been calling plays since day one. KM was Dak's backup...I don't think he had the stones to get in Dak's face and tell him to stick to the script. MM is under the gun now.....that's a good thing for us.
I love how whatever the Cowboys are doing now is somehow always the right way to do things

Just like last year KM was great
Now KM sucked and MM is great

Next year…… who knows, will just lap up and pump whatever idiotic thing the Cowboys do next

Anyone that thinks the Cowboys have just upgraded their offensive coordinator will discover they're sadly mistaken. This is a lateral move at best.
Check back after next season.

Maybe the team throws a bunch of resources at the offense- that would do more than changing the OC. The defense wiould suffer then, which will be sad as they are finally putting together a decent defense. Just see how well the strategy of pounding the ball on the ground works when the defense is giving up more yards/ points. Hope I'm wrong.

You dont come into a new job as the boss and make changes right away you evaluate and see whats going on then you change as needed
The head coach should be the one guy that chooses his staff, but unfortunately under this gong show of an organization, Jerry decides what coaches the head coach must have on his staff, which no other team in this league operates under.....

Or is it...no matter what Dallas does, many fans will say it sucks?
We seen it before...Dallas does it, they suck, another team does it, they are genius.
Yes, Dallas has not been to a NFCCG for a very long time, so obvious it is not working. :muttley:

Just offering a different perspective.

Addition by subtraction. It can't be any worse.

Jerry makes this decision, not MM.

No, that's not how it should be, but MM knew about this when he took the job, and knew Jerry was going to handcuff him to certain things. This is simply one of those things that has now been corrected.

Is it? What sort of evaluation and analysis have you done that tells you it's a lateral move?

Everyone seems to enjoy crapping on MM saying he is a puppet. The Joneses chose him over the paper boy. It seems like MM has all the power to run the Cowboys now.
It does appear that way. The trade for Hankins is something we'd never have done before MM. We also never drafted the shorter DTs before. Those lanky tall guys were leverage nightmares for us.
