Not a coach out there with a better resume. But if he returns they need to hire a new OC.
Part of it is simply that they need better players up front to really have that run first type of mentality. Dallas has some potential on the OL, but compare this line to Detroit and its not even close. Why Jerry thought this OL was good to go coming into the season leaves me scratching my head as well.@thunderpimp91
I dont know why they dont go back to address the RBs/OL talent and scheme wise and take a run first/play action identity to get balance and let the defense breathe some, and call plays the same way for Dak as they do for Rush.
I totally agree.... no debates there. Its obvious they wanted to stick to running the ball no matter the success, to be able to keep the LBs honest which in the past hasnt been the case. But yes we definitely need to assess the OL in the off season. I really think if they had drafted O Torrence vs Schoonmaker two years ago, the OL would be in a better place. But I think Smith, Beebe, and believe it or not Steele who is good in the run blocking can be pieces moving forward. I love Martin but it time to start looking and I hope Guyton is just a struggling rookie who can bounce back next year. We might need to hit the draft and get another OG.Part of it is simply that they need better players up front to really have that run first type of mentality. The other thing to look for is exactly what they did a lot last night. They passed the ball several times from tight and 2TE formations with the QB under center. The run game clearly wasnt there and they only ran it 20 times compared to 35 passes, but the threat to run was always there and the got those LBs cheating up a few times. Very impressed with the game plan McCarthy and Schottenheimer had along with their ability to adapt when the run game simply wasnt working.
Tough to disagree there. I think Steele has a better chance of sticking around than people think. The Guyton situation is one to really keep a close eye on because he seems to really be in the doghouse right now. Smith and Beebe really seem like the only sure things going into the offseason with Hoffman a wild card to watch these last couple games.I totally agree.... no debates there. Yeah I think people also forget he was coming off injury and bc he got paid their expectations of performance increase when new money is involved but I think he was rushed back. His pass pro wasnt the greatest but he was solid in running blocking and graded high in Zone blocking, I think he should get another year. I wouldnt restructure his contract bc if you need an out after next year its more feasible but fi they restructure him, he going see a few more years. Guyton is definitely in the dog house lol but its his rookie year and first rd OL success makes some of us a lil impatient but but hopefully this offseason will help him.Tough to disagree there. He sure didn't look like a guy that should be fired last night.Yes, he should have been fired. But whatever Jerry's reason was for retaining him could end up being the same reason why he extends him in January. The reason? Only Jerry knows the answer to that
The Cowboys have really been hurt by the (so far) sub-par drafts of 2023 and 24. Theres still time with Guyton to show improvement but for your first round pick to look completely lost is scary after 15 games.Tough to disagree there. Yeah its definitely not encouraging but I think he will be fine.. Everyone doesnt have that first year of success. The Cowboys have really been hurt by the (so far) sub-par drafts of 2023 and 24. Have to go go back to filling holes in Free Agency and drafting best player available. The Cowboys have really been hurt by the (so far) sub-par drafts of 2023 and 24. Theres still time with Guyton to show improvement but for your first round pick to look completely lost is scary after 15 games.
Definitely need a fresh offensive schemeNot a coach out there with a better resume. But if he returns they need to hire a new OC.
IMO you can even go less than that. Just get a new OL coach. Not a coach out there with a better resume. But if he returns they need to hire a new OC.
They drafted a college RT with a high RAS score and thought they could pencil him in as a starting LT on a 12-5 team without a worry. The Cowboys have really been hurt by the (so far) sub-par drafts of 2023 and 24. Great points. I would even question if it was even McCarthys decision to part ways w KMoore and other assistants since Jerry makes every football decision. I have argued since Garrett became our hc that the only power the Dallas hc has is over game time clock management. You said it well that Jerry sets up every hc to fail and their only job is a) pretend they have hc authority & b) be the scapegoat when Jerry micromanages the team to another no nfc championship appearance. Lather, rinse, repeat.Jerry makes it this way. I'd like to move on from McCarthy, not because he's not a very good head coach but because he's not the solution in Dallas. I'd like to replace him with some mythical head coach who can come in here and change Jerry but that person doesn't exist.
This is why I have no energy to waste on the McCarthy talk. He's as good as it's going to get until this owner is either dead or so diminished mentally that he just physically can't show up anymore.
McCarthy's done a pretty good job in a very bad situation. I think the most valid criticism you can have of him is some of his decisions with his staff. Nolan was horrible. Moving on from Kellen Moore and handing the offense to Schottenheimer was a downgrade. They're not doing a bad job with the offense. It lacks talent. They shouldn't be a top offense right now but Moore consistently overachieved with what he had. These guys aren't overachieving.
There's really nowhere to go. No avenue to change anything. A contract extension for McCarthy means 4 or more years of a coach Jerry is comfortable with. Bringing in a new coach means the exact same thing.
Mike talked Jerry into forcing KMoore out, and letting Mike run the offense.Great points.
