I think Jerry is still saying all the right things, because he thinks there's a chance we're going to the playoffs.
Once that fantasy comes to an end, I think the tune will begin to change. Especially if we lose in bad fashion as usual.
I think it depends on how these last three games go..................we play Tampa Bay, Philly, and Washington.

Win 2 out of the 3, I think Fat Mike comes back.............................That means we won 5 of the last 7 games played with half the roster full of practice squad players.

That is kinda impressive, not going to lie....................Now if we go 1-2 or 0-3, then Fat Mike will be waiting in the parking lot for the Uber to pick him up.

If Dak wasn’t resigned, I would want all coaches fired and start fresh. Let the new HC find his QB and go from there. Yet, here we are. Saddled to Dak for a few more seasons, might as well let Mike finish with him. They both can ride off into the sunset together. I don’t know of a better HC that Jerry would hire. Dallas is not going after Johnson, Vrabel, etc. It will come down to Mike, Zimmer, Kellen or Witten. I’ll gladly accept Mike over those other options
With Belicheck off the market, the top two remaining candidates are Johnson and Vrabel..........I would go with Vrabel myself, but I dont think Jerry will do that because Vrabel is not a yes man.

The reason he got fired in Tennessee is because he and the GM didnt see eye to eye on personnel and Vrabel is not the type to hold his tongue, he was too vocal about not liking some of the decisions the GM was making. Dont think Jerry wants to go down this road, like I said, Vrabel is not a yes man, he will tell you to your face if he doesnt like something.

So, if Johnson and Vrabel are off the table, along with Belicheck, who exactly would be the replacement for Fat Mike? Zimmerman? Kellen? Witten?.................I would rather just roll with Mike.

Give Mike a 3 year deal and let him ride it out with Dak................we can get out of the Dak contract after 3 more years, so this matches up with a new deal for Mike.

Yeah, I agree. If he wins 2 out of 3 he's probably staying, but I can't say I'm impressed because I believe the talent level on both sides of the ball is much higher then it seems. The defense is beginning to show a little bit, but the offensive line has some horses up there, and we should be dominating people. But it's just horrible coaching.
Don't even get me started on penalties.

Yes, “everything is about compensation“, it has nothing to do with “premier franchise”.

2 different things lol…..every coach is going to ask and try to get paid as much as possible whether they are coaching the panthers, the jags or Dallas.

The cowboys however are still a premier franchise in sports- talked about constantly, high pressure, and still considered a legacy franchise. The Boston Celtics had decades of nothing from early 90s till 2008, the Yankees had terrible eras, yet they were and still are considered legacy franchises.

The cowboys can get any player or coach they want, it’s the owners who choose not to spend on players because of frugality not because of lack of interest.

We are always extreme fans (hence why we are posting on a message board about the team) so we go one extreme or the other and that often can cloud judgement.

If Jacksonville offered McCarthy the same compensation as Dallas he’d be the Jaguars head coach. That is how “premier” the Dallas Cowboys are.

Being a “yes man” is the first bullet on Jerry’s perfect head coach requirements. In fact it’s non-negotiable.

MM will be extended. jerry should have hired Sean Payton when he was available or Dan Campbell.
Now it is too late and Jerry has no time or good options to convince anyone.
Glad this is the situation as the focus will be on the GM not the new coach who can take the fall.
It is all about the GM in dallas.

For most of this season I thought like many Cowboys fans that Mike McCarthy‘s tenure in Dallas was over either during the season or more likely, at season’s end. Now after what has transpired on the field plus the exit of Bill Belechick from the NFL stage, I’m thinking it is more likely Jerry tries to keep Big Mac in Big D.

Why is Jerry likely choosing to try and extend McCarthy? Because he probably knows the number of talented NFL coaches wanting to come to Dallas as the next sacrificial lamb on the Jones failure altar is dwindling like a flower in the Texas heat. The luster on the star ain’t what is used to be.

Sure, the Star is worth a lot of money but any self respecting HC who wants what all great NFL coaches have - getting to choose their own assistants, having full control of the locker room and discipline, having control of the message to the media, and having the final say with player usage and playing time is not happening. In Dallas, those powers reside in the owners box.

Jerry’s recent positive comments about both McCarthy and DC Mike Zimmer give plenty of room for the possibility that Big Mac and Zimmer along with some other assistants will be re-upped with new contract offers.

The question is will Mike McCarthy want to come back? He will probably have at least three options:
  • Stay in Dallas after given a 2-3 year contract extension.
  • Take another HC job like in New Orleans where he has ties from his early days as an assistant coach.
  • Retire. He will be 62 next season, so retiring is not out of the question.
If I was Mike McCarthy, there is no way I’m coming back to this situation. He’s had 5 seasons to try and bring Dallas back to at least a conference championship game and has failed. Winning one wild card game in 5 years is not what he was hired to do. And he’s seen how his bosses have no problem throwing entire seasons away with no consequences other than to fire those under them,

Big Mac has had 5 years to watch up close and personal what a challenge it is to try and coach a professional football team where the owner is also the president, GM and face of the franchise. IMO he would be crazy to stay here.

Decisions will have be made soon. What will they be?
I seriously doubt MM came here to win something meaningful. There are a lot of reasons for that i think like this. The one more important one for me is that he came here doing nothing against Prescotts extension at hand.

One would think: a SB winnig coach who had the opportunity to coach one of the best QBs in football for several years has seen what it needs at the QB position to be successful. But he chose to come here despite seeing most of his contract tenture being tied to Prescott. Thats not a decission you make when you are interessted in winning.

Secound i doubt that he was brought in to win something meaningful. If he were he had to be let go after his third year at least.

JJ doesnt pay coaches. He does not believe in it. Why? Coaches salary isnt paid from the yearly salary cap, which is then already financed by the incomes of the league. Coaches money JJ has to pay from his own pocket. And that is a no go for him.

So you get over the hill coaches like MM. Dont misunderstand me, not bad, just not interessted in winning at all costs anymore. A last contract before retirement. Thats all "our" guys are looking for.

And JJs goal is to make money and so have more power. So all JJ has to do is to keep his franchise in the media. Some winning seasons by his puppet is enough for the Jones family.

In the end i think MM gets a new deal. 2 years i think is the right length. So you will keep Zimmy happy too in his hope becoming our hc.

McCarthy should decline any offers from Jerry until he gauges the appetite of other teams for his services as HC in 2025. Jerry has completely disrespected McCarthy and his Staff by keeping them on as lame ducks. Jerry deserves to be left with table scraps as his HC choice for the 2025 season. McCarthy may well end up in that scrap pile.

If the Cowboys were a “premier” organization why did it take $60 million AAV, $231 million guaranteed, to sign Dak Prescott?

You’re confusing bad contract negotiations or signing players too late with the allure of franchise. You clearly don’t get the conversation

I thought it was fries or onion rings These conversations about who’s going to coach this team is like beating a dead horse. Nothing changes until Jerry is gone.

The Dallas Cowboys have to pay extra to garner the same talent other teams do. Players and coaches. It is one of the least desirable NFL teams to be associated with. The narrative it’s some kind of special franchise is make believe Jerry Jones has created. It’s what allows Jerry to fail and retain masses of gullible fans.

Great post!

If I'm Big Mac I hold the leverage and if I get an offer I can live elsewhere, that's where you can forward my mail. Maybe New Orleans. Maybe Chicago?

The narrative it’s some kind of special franchise is make believe Jerry Jones has created. It’s what allows Jerry to fail and retain masses of gullible fans.

And the losing and failure for so long has made fans delusional and insecure. The cowboys are a franchise that top players have interest in playing for. literally last offseason Derrick Henry wanted to be here. Parsons wanted to play here, jeanty wants us to draft him. it’s the jones who choose not to use free agency or make wrong decisions with roster making. Generations of families grow up and into life as cowboys fans, the cowboys are absolutely a destination franchise. I’d be gullible if I was saying the cowboys could pay less and still get players. I’d be gullible if I was saying we have had success in the last 25 years or so.

Now whether or not ownership capitilizes on that is a seperate issue. The cowboys are the most talked about, most written, most viewed team for a reason. People love them and others equally love to see them lose, and they love to see them lose because of the status of the franchise.

The failing since 95 has been brutal, but they are still the Dallas cowboys. That doesn’t mean Jerry’s a good owner or Stephen makes the right decisions but they are a Mount Rushmore American sports franchise. I’m not sure if your too young or too in your feelings to understand this.

Part of the reason for Jerry’s inactivity or complacency is because we are the Dallas cowboys. An institution - so he knows the money and fans and ratings will be there. It’s a product of his success and the franchises historical success.
