I still think Jerry is being punished for '95. The sad part is I'm starting to believe it. You can't watch the last 2 games of this year and think that Dallas gets a fair shake with the refs. And add that to the Dez non-catch in the playoffs.

Besides owning a SB winning team, what did Jerry do in 1995 that pissed the league off?

The rulebook says:

Item 4. Unsportsmanlike Conduct. An attempt to call an excess team timeout or to call a second timeout in the same dead-ball period by Team B in an attempt to “freeze” a kicker, will be considered unsportsmanlike conduct and will subject the offending team to a 15-yard penalty (See 12-3). This will apply to field goal or Try attempts.

Note: If an attempt is made to call a timeout in such situations, the officials shall not grant a timeout; instead, play will continue, and a penalty will be called, with customary enforcement. If a timeout is inadvertently granted, the penalty shall also be enforced.

As I read that, the fact that the refs stopped the clock as a result of Seattle's requesting a second consecutive time out when they shouldn't have done means the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty should have been enforced. What am I missing?

NFL sued Jerry over Pepsi and Nike marketing deals

Yeah it was a big deal in '95. Jerry was on the cover of SI and the cover said "the Maverick of the NFL" or something to that effect. Everyone was mad that Jerry made these deals with Pepsi and Nike so the NFL sued Jerry for 500 million dollars (I think 500 million) and then Jerry counter sued for 860 million dollars. During this time Jerry signed Deion Sanders to a then record 13 million signing bonus and that made everyone really mad. The naysayers claimed that Jerry couldn't afford that contract if he didn't make these deals, which was ludicrous. So Jerry made these deals with Nike and Pepsi and introduced the Nike deal on MNF at Giants' stadium during a blowout win over the giants in week 1. Then 2 weeks later he signed Deion, then a couple weeks later the NFL sued Jerry and then the countersuit. They ended up dropping the two lawsuits but there was bad blood between Paul Taglibue (NFL commissioner) and Jerry for a while. Also a lot of the owners, Jim Mara et al., were super mad at Jerry cuz some owners were "losing money" and the browns left cleveland which somehow was Jerry's fault because he didn't want to share the profits equally with all the owners. It was a week to week circus back in '95 and I still think the NFL doesn't want Jerry to ever win a super bowl. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but I truly do not feel with all the enemies Jerry made that year with the owners, competition committees, etc that there is still some residue anger and that's why we tend to not get calls. Jerry went to war with the league that year and he won and it made a lot of people very angry. When sports illustrated is writing articles about Jerry taking on the league you know that it was a bad situation.

Just a little history lesson

This is true.

And then all the rest of the owners of the league copied him and made a bazillion more dollars.

If they're still whining about it now with grudges, they're all arses.

I've believed this for awhile. This **** with the refs has been going on several years now. I believe Jerry doing business without the NFL has made him an enemy in league offices. Also with the NFL offices being east coast centric, I believe they're trying to move the league's attention away from the Cowboys and towards the Patriots and Giants. They want a league where those two teams are the face of the league.

The blown 2nd timeout call was inexplicable.

yeah that was a snafu, but there is no way to know if then dallas scores a td, they couldnt do that all game, so could be had they got it
right dallas still kicks the fg or throws a int.

The naming rights thing was one of my favorites. The 49'ers owner said publicly that Jones was going "destroy the NFL" and about a year later signed the same kind of deal for his stadium.

More likely we either score a TD or kick a FG with a new set of downs while running the clock down so Seattle doesn't get another shot before halftime.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who believes this. I also agree with everything you said too about the Giants and the Patriots. No way does these calls today happen to the Patriots. It makes it not fun to watch sometimes. I think league doesn't want Jerry to win another super bowl cuz of 95 and reasons stated above and that makes me really angry for people like Romo, Witten, etc. Take your anger out on Jerry by black balling him business wise but allow the players to have a fair shot. Every time I see Romo get hit in the head and there's no flag it just angers me cuz we all know that some players can't even be tackled without a flag. Hate Jerry if you want, a lot of people do, but let the players play.

I'll say it again, if you don't believe the east coast narrative go back and watch the 9/11/11 game against the Jets.....

Shouldn't be too much of a surprise. I'm pretty sure the league office is in NY and Mara/Kraft/Goodell probably all hang out at the same rotary club meetings.

The part where it says to freeze a kicker, which with 99.9% certainty he wasn't. Fact is its left up to the referee's to judge the intent of the coach which is stupid. There should only be circumstances that need to be met with no judgment needed for intentions. The rule should be two sentences long.

If a coach attempts to call 2 TO's consecutively it's a 15 yard penalty assessed after the play. If play is stopped inadvertently the penalty will be enforced anyways.

Leave it to the league to screw up something so simple.

I think they would not have got a td.
Seattle was good on defense and in redzone, and today Dallas was just off.

The refs screwed up and then didnt know what to do, if it was a conspriacy, they would be so blatantly stupid about it.
A refs job is not easy, they are not robots and will make mistakes.
What JG should have dont is refused to go forward with the kick, and demand the penalty.
It might have worked, worse case is your kicking from 5 yards further back, an they were close so that isnt a issue.
Take a delay of game, and get out on the field make a show of it. they might do something about the no call.

While I really don't like Pereira (or Blandido either) he is right about the Seabags getting away with one.

BDC Jr asked me today if we ever get homefield advange with the refs. I told him yes but it rarely happens.
