Mike Tirico ripped the new stadium

The windows are exactly like indy's new stadium. I saw a game played a couple weeks ago at their stadium and the light poured on the field. You've never heard anyone complain about their stadium.

It's called "Jerry envy". Jerry is so exuberant about the place and proud of it that he generates a lot of hatred.

I have to admit that when I went to the Titans game, I had the same two concerns. The down and distance that first game was really hard to locate and pretty small once you found it. I thought they'd worked on that somewhat, though. And the sun does pour in through the west side glass late in the day. I was on the opposite side so it wasn't an issue where I was, but I noticed sun shining in onto the people on the south side of the 200 section, and it looked like it could be tough to deal with for 20 or 30 minutes.

But it was strange that he ended with that commentary. I really don't see Tirico as a "hater", so maybe he'd forgotten to mention it earlier. Still sounded kind of awkward, though.

Can anyone else confirm this with an article or something?

Thats cool if true.

Catch, it was in one of the articles when the plans for the stadium was revealed. I'll look for a link.

Tirico's negative rips there at the very end were totally party foul.

Catch - there is a DMN article on this webpage that talks about the glazing on the glass. It doesn't say anything about blocking the sun, but it mentions changing the color of the glass between blue and silver based on how the sun is shining.

Mike Tirico is a big time nerd to me and he is very dry, vanilla, and boring. I have never figured out what ESPN sees in him. I could probably say that for 95% of ESPN'S staff.

How about we ***** about the graphics on ESPN during the game. Seems like I was constantly looking or waiting for the down and distance to show up on the screen. It was bugging the heck out of me all game. Not showing the play clock until it gets to 10 is lame also.

I also do not need to be told that the punt did not hit the vid board during every punt.

There Terrico.........TAKE THAT!

and yes I spelled his name wrong for good measure!

Pointing out an issue with the game clock isn't a complaint, just stating a fact. The Sun could be an issue in late afternoon games for receivers looking back for the ball wiht the sun shining through the endzone windows.

I guess Jerry might have to tint out the crib..

some of you are oversensitive - given all the love for the stadium last Sunday and yesterday, it is totally appropriate for an announcer to point out potential issues.

Mike Tirico was unusually aggressive last night, I remember one point when he was ripping Carolina pretty bad and I laughed. He's usually so much more subdued about his criticism. I kinda like it. Maybe having Chuckie there instead of Kornhauser has opened him up a little.

He might have a point on the clock, but he's reaching on the sunshine issue. The sun shining in through tinted windows should be less of a problem than the sun in all the outdoors stadiums in the league. The play clock is placed in an odd location but the numbers were large enough to see.

He actually prefaced the comments by saying that the stadium is in fact as fantastic / amazing as everyone says it is. Try listening a little more closely next time m'kay?

Yup, was about to say that - he was very impressed with the stadium and said everything that has been said is true - it's amazing...but these are the items that might be flawed...

Had no problem with it.

oh please your undersensitive. Look I don't have a problem mentioning a flaw but to wait until the end of the game and throw it in there was silly. It's almost like he forgot to mention it during the game and then said to himself 'oh wait, I forgot to mention the sunshine problem for WR's and the clock, let me get that in now'.

Thus far all the games I have seen have been night games pre-season and reg season as well as the OU-BYU game. It is going to be interesting to see games played during the daylight especially the 12:00 game vs the Seahawks to see what the effect of the sun through the roof, will it be similar to how it was at Texas Stadium?

I think we are being too sensative. He's right. The clock is in a bad position and it's going to be hard for opposing QBs. Big deal, it will be an advantage for us but he is right.

the doors are going to allow for a maximum glare factor during late afternoons and it is going to be hard to see the ball. So what? We had that issue at the old Texas Stadium as well during certain parts of the day. Every stadium has unique things about it. Old Candlestick had sink holes. The old Vet was like playing on concrete, Lambau is a meat locker in December, Old Giant Stadium was like throwing in a wind tunnel. Big deal.

If the stadium was in Foxboro, Pittsburgh, or New York, it would be genius. Let the haters hate. After last nite I know ill never attend a sporting event at a better venue in my lifetime.

He actually complemented the stadium a lot throughout the broadcast.
