Mike Tomlin on players only meeting: not good

I'm not sure what a players only meeting will resolve. Especially the defense. Guys getting pushed back 10 yds off the line of scrimmage, linebackers getting carried 5-6 yds by ball carriers and DBs standing still watching WRs blow past them for 40 yd gains CAN'T be resolved by talking about it. They're overmatched physically AND they don't know what to do. Holding hands and having each others back only goes as far as the next screwup. It's like the defensive scheme was written in Chinese and no one can read it. Completely clueless. The coaching is bad and there's no leader on D

Balance of probabilities he's not wrong. I'm sure in certain circumstances it can help and has helped, but if you lose after the meeting, where do you go from there? The finger pointing gets intensified.

No proof of that. Because most of the times it is way too late in the season to help.
This is still early, and they want to correct issues now while it can still make a difference.

Proof? This is all speculation. You don't need solid evidence. It's not going out on a limb to say if the Cowboys were 5-0 they wouldn't be holding a players only meeting. But hey, I'm glad they care enough to hold one.

That's right. His prowess is pretty overinflated by the media drive by's. He was the beneficiary of having Big Ben and others all over the place. Dick Le beaux as defensive coach didn't hurt either lol. Those coaching staffs in Pittsburgh were loaded with veterans. This staff in Dallas isn't near that good. So yeah, a players meeting might not be a great sign, but isn't the end all be all. I do tend to agree with Mike that those usually don't help much. But who knows to what extent the meeting went. I think it was only on the defensive side.

I might add, we don't have a fraction of the talent on the defense that Tomlin had up in Pittsburgh when he was winning. Our talent is woefully all over the map.... depending who you listen to. The eye test says we stink on ice defensively which exaggerates the entire teams issues. Start winning then it's minimalized. Winning is the temporary cure.

Honestly I can't remember the last time they've ever had a players only meeting.

Hmm...did you forget this famous Tony Romo led "players only meeting" at his new mansion during the later half of the season when Tony was obviously trying to get enough players to side with him to talk to Jerry and the Clapper to give Tony his old starting QB job back, even though the Cowboys were on a franchise record regular season winning streak while led by a rookie QB?

tomlin is right. teams that have a players only meetings do not have real confidence in there coaches. i hope i am wrong in saying that.
