Mike Tomlin on players only meeting: not good

Do you think that because you brought something from the year 2010 that it won’t matter and it won’t help look man I’m with everyone else if they care enough to make changes to the depth chart who gets reps brought in another defensive assistant and now they have a meeting at least they care enough that they want to hope they can get their message across and it does work. I’m betting this season they started out in 2018 three and five and turn that season around. They probably had a players only meeting too. The problem is y’all are up these guys but so far that you know what they had for breakfast the morning before.

As much as you guys wanna lay on the negative side, I’m gonna go with the positive that all the above is trying to adjust to what’s happening the first five games and hopefully it has some positive effect going forward. No one can guarantee it will but they say they shouldn’t do it cause it never works. It is utterly ridiculous. It is ugly ridiculous for that opinion to be laid down here that they’re just doing this and it won’t work at all.

I'm wondering what it is they think they can do with this meeting. That coaches wouldn't be able to in 'regular" meetings and practices.

It was a defensive meeting. But was not specified if players only or not.
Unless it came out since then. But it doesn't matter. They are trying to correct things now.

There is no evidence of anything good or bad coming from these types of meetings.

The key here, is they are doing it while there is still a chance to improve. But fans refuse to see that.

Key word, "if." The word "if" is the false hope that Jerry Jones is hoping fans will hold onto. Let's look deeper: The meeting itself doesn't appear to be the important variable. The quality of player leadership and what changes after the meeting probably matter much more. Key word in that is "leadership." Leadership starts at the top. Leadership or lack thereof is infectious. This is the key missing attribute within this organization. For everything that Jerry knows, leadership is the one thing he does not possess. It would be great if this team can turn it around but the one constant with this team (other than Jerry Jones) is that this team is wildly inconsistent. It would be just like this team to beat GB pretty handedly in a few days but only to return to the Winter meltdown that we are accustomed to seeing therefore rendering the team meeting useless.

I don't see it as a good thing given the questions surrounding Schotty's coaching ability and now with our DC having to have his hand held.

You don’t have to have skins on the wall to be a leader, but it can certainly help.

It is but this meeting isn’t the reason. At least some players care, whether the meeting helps or not. Not really understanding all the criticism about the meeting. About the play on the field, hell yes I understand all the criticism.

Who would own the right to talk and get in someones grill during an all players meeting!? I'm sure Williams and Gary had something to say yet they need to shut up and sit down! Really, who can speak? Dak? His little feelings are still hurt from the tunnel incident and he has been saying the same thing for 11 years, so he can sit his arse down! CD maybe, but he is in this for CD, not the team unity. Honestly, who gets in everyones arse, our rookie LB Barnham, he's earned it.........I got no one???

Why would Dak or CD, or any other offensive player attend a defensive player meeting? I’m going to assume you missed that part and don’t have an agenda.

There are really only two reasons to call a players only meeting and both of them are signs of major organizational dysfunction.

Either the players are trying to compensate for bad coaching, or there are players who need to be called out by their peers.

I mentioned something like this yesterday. If it’s about holding the players accountable, good. If it’s about the coaching, the titanic sinking is going to seem like a party.

majority of the time they are not a good sign.

Looking like crap on the field is the bad sign.
That they cared enough to get together and talk about it is a good sign.
Some sense of caring and urgency.
Not satisfied with just cashing their checks.
