Delegating is not a negative.

What did Landry do? He had coordinators and he delegated.

With two Super Bowl rings for Tomlin, I'm not sure why anyone would throw rocks at him.

Good leaders know how to motivate and delegate.

I don't like the Steelers as much as the next guy, but Mike Tomlin is an excellent head coach, in my opinion.

I could do a pretty good job of delegating the defense to Dick LeBeau, I think.

Except for the offense, defense, and special teams.

Well, maybe he has some say in the special teams.

I think the notion that you need someone that spits and screams in players' faces is "good coaching" is absolutely ridiculous.

Leadership really doesn't change too much, from profession to profession. Take the military for example - many people think it's all Drill Sergeant style...bunch of guys hollering at Soldiers and making a ruckus. Try that yourself in real life and see how far it gets you.

Being able to motivate individual people to work together as a team and delegate authority to trusted and responsible people is what leadership is all about. You tell me you could replace Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh with Jim Mora, Jr. and they would have the same result as last season and I'll take that bet all day every day six ways from Sunday.

Agree 100% TwoDeep.

Next, some will claim that Wade Phillips is a better Head Coach because he has a more easily defined skillset .

So the guy has great people working for him. Big deal, most successful leaders do.
And yet most people don't give Switzer any credit for his Super Bowl win, though he probably had more impact on that team than Tomlin does on his.

Put down the Homerade for 5 seconds, man. Most people that say "well he only won with Jimmy's team" are super-homers too. I propose the same question to them: think we could just remove Switzer altogether and the Boys still would have won the Super Bowl??

Anybody who has watched Tomlin ought to know he does more than just chest bumping or being a chearleader. He knows how to manage a team, which so far, unfortunately, Wade hasnt shown. I like Wade and I hope he succeeds, actually disperately hope it works out.

In recent years, one of the best Quotes by HC was by Tomlin. When he was asked by a reporter what he thought about players saying he was better this year than last year ( or something to that effect), Tomlin said, paraphrasing "They should be worried what I am thinking about them, not me worried about what they are thinking about me. I judge them not the other way around".

Too lazy to lookup that quote but its something to that effect. I hate Stealers as the next guy here, but the guy can be a HC. And its totally true, without Dick Lebeau I don't think he gets his SB, because his Offense was putrid almost last year.

So Tomlin does more than just chearleading. He is not Bill Belichek in X and Os, but guy can sure delegate and be a HC. He is in Jimmy Mold, like someone else mentioned here.

And yet I am not among those people.

Like Bill Parcells stated, as a Head Coach, you can mess up great football teams.

I refuse to believe that anybody can win a Super Bowl when given the most talented team in the league.

I tell you one thing, I believe we get a different result in 2007, if Mike Tomlin is coaching this team as opposed to Wade Phillips.

If Mike Tomlin was coaching this team in 2007, we would've won the Super Bowl, dropped out in the playoffs last year, and we'd be well on our way to a 14-2 or 15-1 season this year with another Super Bowl win. I firmly believe that.

I still think this might be a special year, but lets please stop all of the hate on Mike Tomlin - it's completely unwarranted......except for him being with the Steelers!! :steelers:

Only a person who doesn't know the game of football would pose such a silly question. Kudos to the guy who posted the Cowher picture.

Really? Cause it seems to me like Wade did more to improve his team from 2006 to 2007 than Tomlin did from 2006 to 2007. And the Steelers were just a year removed from winning a Super Bowl, yet Tomlin led them to a first round playoff exit.

This guy is overrated because he has a Super Bowl ring and he jumps up and down and screams a lot. I understand that the personality of football fans tends to attract to this type A personality coach, but it's just silly to think he has much, if any, impact on that teams success or failure.

Tony Romo had only started for about half a Season in 2006 and it took a historical "fluke" play to keep our current Playoff Drought alive.

Wade Phillips had the most talented team in football in 2007, after beating the Patriots, Michael Strahan said they were the most talented team they faced in 2007.

Mike Tomlin is a better football coach then Wade Phillips, not sure why this is even being debated.

Does Wade Phillips know more about the 3-4 Defense and defense in general then Mike Tomlin, yeah probably but what exactly has that gotten Wade Phillips?

For the record, I don't believe Mike Tomlin is a genius. However, I think he is a solid football coach and just find it laughable that he could be ostracized by the same people that prop up a Head Coach who is 0-4 in the Playoffs Lifetime.
