I'm looking at White as a longshot to actually be of service in a drastic emergency.

Hopefully, his services won't be required anytime soon or ever, for that matter. ;)

For the present, I'm looking at Cooper Rush as our best bet to offer backup help.

What a score the kid out of WKU would be if he can win the back up slot this year. Don't know anything about him, but he has the prototypical size and doesn't seem like he played with very much talent protecting him (sacked 45 times last year).

Heard he lacks pocket awareness, big time.

Don't laugh. I know this sounds crazy, but when I watch the video of White he reminds me a little of Tom Brady. Of course the video only shows the best plays he makes so its easy to be fooled, but there is something about his posture and movements during and after the plays that looks Brady-ish. For one thing, he stands in the pocket and makes the throws without being distracted by the pressure. He directs his offense with the same kind of purpose and determination.

I am not saying he is going to be Tom Brady. We probably won't see another Tom Brady in our life times. But I think he could have the attributes to be a leader and a good QB given the time to develop. He has good size and arm strength. His lack of movement does not bother me. Some very immobile QBs have been very successful in the NFL including Brady and the two Mannings. He throws with enough accuracy to be successful in the right situations. I think he is going to surprise us once he starts throwing the football in the offseason. Cooper Rush has some real competition.

Rush v. White will be interesting. Rush looked surprisingly good in preaseason last year, but he doesn’t have a strong arm. White has the strong arm, but we will have to wait and see if he can look as good as Rush did last year. Who knows, maybe they’ll keep 3 QBs or one can slide to the practice team.
