In 2013 the Vikings allowed the most points in the NFL - even more than the train wreck Cowboys - and finished with only 5 wins. Mike Zimmer hired for 2014.

2014 - Adrian Peterson missed all but one game due to suspension. The Vikings still improved to 7 wins as defense went from 32nd to 11th in points allowed.

2015 - 11 wins, division champs, 5th in points allowed.

2016 - Lost Teddy Bridgewater in TC. Went 8-8, 6th in points allowed.

2017 - 9-2 with Case Keenum playing QB and RB Dalvin Cook out for the season. 6th in points allowed.

Meanwhile, Garrett still has one of the worst defenses in the league and the offense falls apart without Zeke.

It's not "a process", it's coaching.

You look at what other coaches do with less (in some cases far less) and our situation with Garrett just begins to make you angry.

The Vikings coasting with an absolute goon @ Qb

zimmer comes up with innovative defensive schemes.
garrett claps and throws players under the bus.

Zimmer is a good coach and players like him.

He has zero playoff wins as a head coach and has not been on a staff that won a playoff game since 1998.

If he loses in the divisional round this year again and with that quarterback its highly likely then what? 4 years and this one in a year where rodgers is hurt.

Zimmer wouldn't succeed here anyway because of the Jones's.

the rams are extremely talented and had a great draft.

Amen.

So, in essence you're saying "next man up" should be replaced by good coaches step up when the "next man up" fails?

I don't believe they're as talented as this Dallas team. Their change in scheming ability YoY has resulted in significant changes. I believe we're being held back by Garrett and co. similar to the way Fisher held the Rams back.

there coaching is excellent. They are on a wave of momentum where teams just go and play great, we see it every year.

they are very talented though. They had a great offseason.

In NY the media kept wondering why the giants wouldn't look at the free agents at Offensive tackle and the GM there just said we are not paying old guys who are not that good. The rams are flourishing with better line play because of the veteran signings. Plus all the other parts they added.

and on defense its not even close. The rams roster is loaded with talent from all those high picks.

The Cowboys were 5th in points allowed last season...

Yep, and look at us now.

It's almost as if Zeke hid a lot of ills last season on both sides of the ball. Without him, the coaching staff has been helpless to adjust to the point of even being competitive, much less contenders.

We had Zimmer and a good deal of fans wanted him out of here on a rail.

How soon we forget the whole GROZ movement where a number of people had that in their sig like it was some kind of club. And others, who did not put it in their sigs, wanted him gone as well.

I wasn't here then, and that was over a decade ago. I'm talking about the last 5 years up to now.

As others have noted, it's not just Zimmer who has been able to improve a team in far less time than JG and his process. Worse, if there's the slightest adversity the Cowboys fall apart. There's no leadership.

I was not not one of those people, BrAinPaiNt. Check my sig. ;)

people hated him in 04 and 05...then in december of 06 they really hated him.

The thing I will never forget is he was the guy giving out inside info to the local media blasting parcells. Zimmer was on with deion after the 06 season and he knew he would not be back in 07 and he went on and on about how parcells never got him players and none of the corners could cover. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He had like 6 #1 draft picks on that defense, granted in 05 they changed schemes and zimmer was kind of learning the scheme as he went that year but still. Parcells never said a negative word about the guy and he himself took the blame those years when the defense struggled.

I wish espn 103.3 would have podcasted some of those old shows but the are long gone.

anyway, all these people pining for zimmer were singing a different tune when the 04 team fell apart and rookie Roethlisberger took the steelers right down the field to win at the end of the game and then losing late in the year to New Orleans in a critical game.

he is a good coach but I will never understand the envy. The one that got away who fit in this city and with the personnel we had especially after Romo took over was Sean Payton. Its a borderline travesty that one more year and he would have taken over. Who knows what would have been? yes he has had below average seasons but in that moment with that talented roster he would have been great. We most likely have a championship if Payton was the guy in 07.
