Mike Zimmer vs Jason Garrett

I didn't but that is because that is anathema to how I go about making decisions. They are not made in a vacuum like that and frankly acting rashly without a plan for what comes after is plain dumb.

i figured that lol
there are obvious ways to hire a new competent headcoach.
if we stay the course, it is hopeless.

funny that the coaches and players we despise always go on to do great things on other teams

In 2013 the Vikings allowed the most points in the NFL - even more than the train wreck Cowboys - and finished with only 5 wins. Mike Zimmer hired for 2014.

2014 - Adrian Peterson missed all but one game due to suspension. The Vikings still improved to 7 wins as defense went from 32nd to 11th in points allowed.

2015 - 11 wins, division champs, 5th in points allowed.

2016 - Lost Teddy Bridgewater in TC. Went 8-8, 6th in points allowed.

2017 - 9-2 with Case Keenum playing QB and RB Dalvin Cook out for the season. 6th in points allowed.

Meanwhile, Garrett still has one of the worst defenses in the league and the offense falls apart without Zeke.

It's not "a process", it's coaching.
No doubt.

Zimmer was always steady as DC.

Parcells made the change to 3-4 and that NEVER TOOK.

We drafted guys like Bobby Carpenter and watched as one of our 2 number ones, Speer got egg rolled.

Only DeMarcus Ware was productive in that scheme.

Roy Williams at SS ?

See ya.

Zimmer was quality coaching and should have remained.

He would probably be our HC eventually.

But this ownership has screwed the pooch with it's decisions about coaching.

Don't get me started..

next I will have to hijack the thread and ask about Sean Payton vs. Garrett as HC.

I love hindsight.

People were running Zimmer out of town. It may be the players these coaches have to work with. Jerry goes for flash high impact players and low on depth. When our starters are in we are at a championship level. When they are out, whether that is from injury or suspension, we don't have good enough players to step in.

Im not going to get on a rueing that Zimmer left. He didnt leave us, he left a bad organization. Who knows if he ll be better than even what we have after Garrett. I wish him well, but either way it landed it doesnt bother me. Hes not exactly doing that great with Minny right now anyway. and who knows what hes being tasked with. just bring in better talent, warm the seat for the next guy, who knows.

That has actually been discussed and there are 3 candidates that there is a seeming consensus on and none of them have any indication that they would be available or willing.

There is a possible downside to firing him. You figure that too?

we can offer that position to whichever OC or DC and have a decent chance of getting him.

like they say, fortune favors the bold.

I bet this place was full of rueing and misery when Zimmer left.

It was exactly what you'd expect: natives had torches and pitchforks and GROZ sigs and anybody who didn't understand he couldn't coach was an idiot.

:(
There was a healthy discussion if he should have been HC.

No. I'm assuming this was meant tongue-in-cheek, but in case it was not, then, no.

That sounds great but what NE assistant coach has had success after leaving? I can point to a ton that have not if you would like.

success has a lot to do with talent.
they would be starting with 6 young probowl talents
the team is only miss 2-3 good players with hopefully a tanked season of draft picks coming.

on the otherhand, garrett and his staff seems like they can never take the last step.
or the one before that either looking at the last 2 playoff games.

cliches are not a plan and I want names. There are coordinators that would do worse than what Garrett who has been slightly over .500 here.

I'm fine with making bold moves given a calculated risk. Going with no plan at all like you posit here is just recklessness.

You are undermining your case for firing Garrett. Talent does matter and Garrett for all his warts does draft well and develop the guys he drafts.

And Belichick's coaching tree has not been able to take a single step as HCs.

Firing him is not all roses.

actually i am saying he cannot even succeed with 6 probowlers.
what he is good for now is tanking.
leadership, when they reach a certain point, implodes, and it feels like we are there.
