I was under the impression from other knowledgeable posters here that under the current rules he will be a restricted free agent. The end of the CBA effects this. Correct, or am I off base?

The thing is that Johnson got that without ever stepping onto a field. Before he'd ever put on a pad for an NFL game.

Austin isn't a rookie signing his first deal and he isn't a rookie who hasn't done anything yet.

I think we'd be pretty lucky if we got him for that deal. I expect it will be more.

If we up the guaranteed a lil more to around 33m and he should accept such a deal.

Yes, if there is no renewal he is a RFA, but Jerry won't screw him and Jerry will resign him.

That's correct, I imagine we'll get him a long-term deal as soon as possible, though.

I agree. They will be too. I think we can all agree that Jerry isn't going to let Austin go to another team. It's just not going to happen.

Yeah I'm sure he won't let Austin go. Miles is a cool cat too. He deserves everything that he gets

Couple things.

Romo has restructured his deal in the past, not only would he do it again, it sets one hell of an example when the franchise QB does things to make the numbers fit.

Leonard Davis has done this as well.

I could see guys like Roy following suit.

That doesn't take into account the whole "uncapped year" thing.

Miles' contract won't be terribly outlandish. He, like Romo and Ware before him, will try to get a fair deal but damn sure won't try to squeeze every last dime out of Jerry. There's something to be said for the person Miles is (I have met him and his dad - good people), but also the loyalty Jerry has shown him and I'm confident he will return that loyalty.

Not concerned for a minute about Miles leaving. I was more concerned of it last year when he paid the Jets a visit.

Miles is too humble a guy to get a big head and start wanting to leave. I mean, maybe if Jerry tried to lowball him, but we know that isn't going to happen. Besides that, why would you want to leave a team that has a QB that obviously trusts you and will get you the ball? Romo to Austin can be an insane tandem for years to come.

I'm telling you guys. For Miles, White is the benchmark. And I think because of various reasons, mostly length of time performing at a top level, that Miles will get slighty less than what White got.

Of course, things could get thrown out of whack if someone throws outrageous money at Boldin before we get a chance to sign Miles.

Do you think he would get more from the Dolphins or somebody else ? I've been very curious as to the loyality of Miles Austin to the Boyz.

I would think his loyalty would be about the same as Roy Williams' loyalty to the Lions.

Show me the money.

I think Miles will expect to be treated fairly in terms of a contract. However Jerry has pretty much always done that to players who have performed at high levels. Last year Ware came up for a contract and while it took some time in the end Jerry got it done as he always does.
