charles woodson is finishing his career great in green bay alongside al harris. 2 man 2 man cbs, that play bump n run. true shutdown corners... just not possible with todays rules.

its awesome that miles is going to go over 1000 so quick.

Well all I know is that 824 receiving yards and 8 TDs are pretty darn good with 5 games left in the season...

Good point!

I would take Miles Austin over ANY receiver in the NFC East...And 3rd only to Fitzgerald and A. Johnson in the entire NFL!

Miles has done more with his opportunities than ANY receiver in the NFL, and I expect him to keep improving even more! He might be on top of my list by the end of the season, or by next year depending how things go...

I don't really care, as long as Tony finally has a receiver he know he can count on to get open whose name isn't Jason Witten.

Although if I had to list them in order, I'd probably go Moss, Jackson, Austin, Smith.

But I do love Steve Smith. He doesn't have the terrifying speed, but he runs Jason Witten routes and that more than makes up for the lack of speed.

I was just going to point these things out. People should really go look at the stats and then realize just how well Miles is doing, especially considering the amount of games he's started compared to the other top statistical leaders.

I take him over any WR in the East any day. He has a good blend of size and speed.

Ew

Did you just say Santana Moss is the best receiver in the east?

I swear Miles is the most slippery receiver I've seen in a real long time...guy is covered in crisco or something. I thought there was no chance he was getting into the endzone on that touchdown. That and a few other moves on other passes and I can't believe how people can't seem to tackle him.

Awesome for us.

No argument there.

Plexico Burress didn't run crisp routes either and he was a good target for Eli. Plex is better than Roy, but they are similar players, and those types can really help out QB's.

If he can start playing with some confidence, I think he'll get it going.

Plex used his size and strength to his advantage to make tough catches. Roy drops uncontested balls when he is wide open and gets outmuscled by 180 lb CBs.

Amen.

I don't get all the Desean Jackson love in here, especially comparing his stats to Austin's and factoring in the amount of playing time, total, over the season so far.

Going into today's game:

Austin had been targeted nearly 20 times less than Jackson, but only has 7 less catches.

Austin had more YAC than the "explosive" Desean Jackson.

Austin had more more TDs, higher average per reception, and 11 more first down catches than Jackson.

Like someone else commented, Jackson is pretty much a one trick pony. If he gets a step (or half-step) on you, you aren't going to catch him.

On the other hand, he isn't going to blow through tackles or run over people.

And in a big game that Philly needed, against Dallas 3 games back, I had to check whether he was actually playing because I didn't see any sign of him making an impact in the game.

Plus, the dude just looks fragile. Like a good hit could snap him in half.

As much as i like Austin right now, I would take Desean Jackson over him for right now

Austin is having a better year, and he hasnt started every game like Jackson has.

Smith is not dominating enough, or not a guy who scares a DB. He is a good Wr. Desean is a difference maker and so is Austin right now. Defense has to fear Desean or Austin taking it to the house any time. Smith is not that and wont ever be that IMO. He just doesn't have that elite speed to be one.

Only guy on Giants team I see in future who can do that is Mario Manningham right now.

I could argue that as well but that is not my definition of a top WR. A top WR does it all in my book. Smith has more film to date. It would not surprise me if Austin is better down the line. He has more tools.

I'd take Miles over any receiver in the NFC East however out of respect to Steve Smith and how good of a season he's having i'll say he's the best as of right now. I'm not a fan of Desean. I don't see him as a #1. A #1 to me is someone who doesn't mind contact. Who can runover guys. Desean is always running away from guys which is great but when you battle a team like Dallas who doesn't want to give you that big play then what do you have?

Awesome for us.

Phil Simms does bring up a good point and this isn't a new point but i'm shocked no other analyst has hopped on the bandwaggon. He has legs like a running back. Its bad enough having to tackle a running back who's taking a hand off. A receiver with running back legs is deadly and there's no wonder why Austin is having so much success. Guys wanted to credit it to poor tackling. No not every week.

Can we draft Golden Tate? Same thought with the whole RB legs on a WR body thing.

Austin reminds me of Rod Smith and Don Beebe, kind of a mesh of the two.
