Babe Laufenberg was at our game again last night. He came a couple of weeks ago as well. While talking to him last night, I asked if he thought that Miles Austin had the talent to keep being productive as a receiver for our Boys.

He said that Miles just needed some confidence, in his opinion. He thinks that the two games Austin has had should go a long way towards helping that.

I realize this isn't a revelation and that anyone of us could have said something similar. But, he has at least had the chance to know the kid.

He also said that Miles seems to be a GREAT individual and we both agreed it would be really hard not to root for him to succeed.

I know some of you have also met Babe and know what kind of guy he is. If you haven't, he's an extremely sharp and personable man. Very easy to talk to and knowledgeable about the Cowboys. Babe is a true fan of football. I try and resist the urge to just badger him about inside information though. I'm sure he gets enough of that.

Just sharing.

I'm looking forward to the Cowboys putting a few teams in a row down for losses! GO Cowboys!!!!

He'll have occasional bad games just like anyone else, but I'd say he etched his name on the starting roster for a while. I feel good for the kid.

Broadus said on DCfanatics show that scouts in the organization felt like Miles should've been doing this stuff 2 years ago.

I still say actual opportunities were the reason why he didn't.

It feels great to not have to look to draft or pick up a top quality WR next year, now that Austin is showing what he can do.

I was convinced last year that Miles Austin could play and the staff was trying to get him on the field more.

But the knee injuries really kept Austin from finding a role.

We'd still be wondering what Sky Miles might be capable of if not for Roy Williams' rib injury against the Denver Broncos.

Austin seized his chance when it came.

He and Tony Romo have a nice feel for one another, things should only get better. Defenses will try more double coverage to slow down the connection and the other weapons on offense must be ready for action when that happens.

He also had to overcome health issues and a case of the dropsies. He dropped a slant in Oakland last August and Romo seldom looked his way again. So far, so good.

The good news is that Miles Austin has good hands.

His drops came from taking his eyes off the ball before catching it due to his eagerness to start running with it.

It's something Ray Sherman has worked with Austin on.

Sky Miles will haul in just about everything as long as he looks the passes in properly before trying to become Supersmiles after the catch.

I still say actual opportunities were the reason why he didn't.

2 years ago there were glimpses of what he could do like in the Green Bay game with the two PI calls he drew. He was still horribly inconsistent.

Last year he was really coming on and then got that injury that set him back a bit. Then he came back and twisted his knee again unfortunately. If it weren't for those injuries, I think Miles would have established himself by the end of the year.

This year it looks like it is all coming together - knowing how to run the routes, catch balls in traffic, break tackles, etc. I really believe he is the real deal and will be our #1 WR. We have Crayton to be the #3. We now just need one of RW11, Ogletree, Hurd or one of the guys on the practice squad to take the #2 spot. In principle, it should be RW11 as he has had a few pretty productive years in Detroit and is still young. I am worried that his natural laziness kicked in once he got the big deal and that he is mailing it in in terms of effort on the field. His problem is that he is a possession receiver who runs bad routes but now also has questionable hands and alligator arms - he can turn it around but I don't know if he has the inner strength to do it.

I don't know how you can't help but like Miles Austin. I like his talent and I like his enthusiasm for the game.

What I don't think many people realize his that the slant route might be his best route. Boy, he runs a mean slant with crazy separation. I think we'll see more of that soon.

nice info.

i'm always wondered how to reconcile the draft reports of having good hands, yet constantly dropping deep balls.

I just think we have guys on this roster that would be bigtime players if they just had more opportunities.

You know why Sam Hurd lights it up every training camp? Because he gets more opportunities.

He was awesome in the preseason too. His routes looked awesome and he will fight for the ball.

Regular season comes around and we dont look his way on a consistent basis until a clutch drive vs a top 2 AFC team and a top 3 Corner in the NFL.

He came up big early in the clutch drive but didn't at the end.

So now we don't really give the guy much of an opportunity.

There are examples all over this roster of guys who may be spectacular if given an opportunity.

In addition to his own dedication and work ethic, I think Garrett and Sherman deserve a lot of credit for developing Austen. I hope Martellus Bennett can see what Austin has done and dedicate himself to the degree the Austin has. I really like our offensive staff, I just wish someone in the organization had a better eye for offensive line talent. If we had that, offensively we would be set for years to come.

I actually feel good about Austin. He's going to come back to Earth...hard, but from the looks of the things he's our best WR. The physical talent is obviously no mirage. Dude's a burner and the more I see of him, the more I'm convinced that he might be the most powerful WR on the team. The way he grabbed that ball out of the guy's hand in Kansas City and the way he just muscled that CB out of the way for the TD Sunday were just crazy physical plays. The way he's able to power through tackles goes without mentioning.

Ray Sherman definitely deserves some credit here. He's one coach I definitely don't want to see leave if Wade gets the axe this year because of the potential he can bring out in Ogletree down the road, possibly, or any other drafted WRs for that matter.

The more Dallas offense keeps rolling the more convinced I am if Wade is gone at the end of the year Garrett gets his chance.

Which means Jod D and Ray Sherman stay of course. Not bad.

I really like this kid, the intangibles of a 1st rounder w/out the attitude.

For whatever reason, we just haven't run a lot of slants the last few years.

We are seeing more this season and Mile Austin is definitely a big threat on the route. He used an outside jab step to sell a fade route in the end zone against Denver when Tony Romo never looked and was wide open.

Austin didn't use the fake step on the slant he broke for the tying score against Kansas City and was more tightly covered.

I know you can't run things the same all the time, but I'd like to see Austin using more of that fake step be it on a slant or a simple go.

Defenders react to what he does because of the speed factor and it helps generate separation.

Good for us, bad for them.
