I could easily see Austin being one of those players that Dallas gives up on and he ends up thriving elsewhere ... probably Miami.

Going by the play by play in the threads I counted 4 drops not counting the bad pass from noodle arm.

Better kick off returner than WR. Much better than Randal Williams at both.

To be fair to Austin, all the players dropped passes today.

Witten
Fasano
Crayton
Hurd
Austin

The difference is that Austin appeared to have TDs.

Why would they give up on him? He's probably the backup wide receiver that has got the most playing time.

Get me players that can catch the ball and we can work on speed and strength training.

May not mean he is not a NFL Wide receiver but that was horrid.

That would make that player = Patrick Crayton. Decent player but can't run past a LB for his life. It was painful watching him trying to return puts.

He's not even getting close to the amount of snaps that Hurd is getting. The Cowboys went long at WR this year because this was Stanback's mulligan year. I don't see them doing it next year, and especially not if they draft a WR in Day 1.

pretty sure I know why BP never put him out there at WR. dude can't catch to save his life.

Which brings up a good point.

Speed and size is something you can't teach. Are dependable hands something that can be taught?

Well, I disagree. I think lately he has gotten more playing time than any of the other backup receivers. And he's also more valuable since he plays special teams as a returner and a coverer (I think).

Come on. This guy was an UDFA to begin with and he could not catch?

He could be the next Wes Walker but we have to draft a WR on the first day.

They can certainly be improved, and I've seen several players do it ...especially raw players who didn't get much instruction in college, but there are also some players who always have craptacular hands and you still put up with it because they make a lot of plays.

.... not that I'm thinking of anyone on our roster necessarily.

Miles Austin is just another no name nobody who we need to replace before next season.

I'll drink to that.

In fact, I think I'm going to get drunk and beat my dog.

What's everyone's opinion of this kid?

Does he have what it takes to stick around or are we looking at another Randall Williams (physically gifted but no production)?

He's shown the ability to get open, but is he someone that could be relied upon on a key 3rd down?

To answer your question directly, Austin is nothing more than a special teamer to me.

I say draft a WR in the 1st if a playmaker is there. Keep Austin as a KR and pray that Stanbach develops into something. Not a fan of Hurd and can see him being released next training camp if Dallas drafts a blue chip WR. I'm affraid T. Glenn could be done in Dallas.

Keep:
T.O.
Crayton
Rookie WR
Stanbach
Austin (KR, special teams guy).

Austin was putting moves on the DB's all day he just needs to focus on CATCHING the ball! I like what Hurd did today as well, they'll both get better which is good news for the Cowboys...
