Wouldn't surprise me if some rookie like Bass comes on like Steele did and beats them both out.
I'm all for it .. only Steele had the necessary pure athleticism to be featured at RT on the edges, ..

I've not heard that about Bass whose supposedly as lesser pure athlete to be featured on the outside edges.
but supposedly has the necessary phone booth functional strength quo, intense demeanor and technique savvy that gives him a better chance
inside at OG.

in the rookie or vet OTAs, where has Bass been lineup as ... OG or OT ?

I would not be surprised if Cowboys invest in Matt Waletzko at RT , in lue of replacing Steele at RT.

We seem geared to have several big, long term deals to the likes of Lamb, Diggs, Tyler B. and Pollard ... Steele may end up getting short end of the stick,
They will sign Steele.

Wish they would just let Waletzko concentrate on the tackle spots. That's enough for his first full season. Besides, at his height, playing guard is a difficult chore.
I'm just the opposite ... when it come to the backups to which we only have certain number of players on the game day active list, we need the " flex " guys, the guys that can
swing into various positions ..." flexible " positions ... swing positions.

How many WR's make acrobatic catches in OTA's and then you never hear from them again until the team is filling their practice squad?

This is the time of the year when we fans are so starved for football, a free agent rookie making a good catch at practice impresses us.

This includes me, by the way.

Too important to lose, Wally has yet to see a single snap as we have no idea how good or bad it will be

Meh ...
OTAs and mini camps....who cares?
Can't think football when it's about to hit 100+degrees in a few days.....
They do have an indoor facility to use. Oh, you mean for us fans...and the 100º plus ....

And yes we care about these walk through type no padded no hitting deals.

It is football news and something to discuss to many fans. At least who is learning what and if they are picking things up well or not.

I agree that you eventually want to do that with backups, but you need to give players time to master one position before having them learn another. On game day, you are not going to take fewer than seven OL, so you don't have to have a backup who can play all the positions. I'd rather have a backup tackle who has mastered playing tackle than a backup tackle/guard who hasn't mastered either position.

NFL's game day active list policy made it difficult to have just a backup guy at one position as far as the trenches.
Injuries makes it just as tough.

It's different if it's a Terrence Steele who was a swing backup to Lael Collins and Tyron Smith ..

But if it's the Farniok's .. Matt Walekto's ...guys on the 2nd level of backups They have to being able to flex to vasrious roles

When injuries struck the DT roles ... guys like Neville Gallomore who normally be 3 techs .. have to adjust to fill roles such as 1 tech.
As out of position as it may sound.

Yeah. I get it, but put gym-shorts and t-shirts on professional athletes and they'll all look good.

Right. I understand that.
But are they picking things up mentality while out on the field instead of in a classroom.
That is important. Hands on knowledge is great. That is something many media members don't really report. Unless they get it from the coaches volunteering the info.

As they may not be asking those questions.
That is why I call them Mediots. :muttley:

Exactly why I don't trust seeing Steele back to his form until mid-season.....minimum.

it may vary among players ..Conner Williams had ACL tear but participated in the very next training camp

Trysten Hill had an ACL injury but missed half of the following season.
