Washington (CNN) -- In another public embarrassment for the Air Force's nuclear missile program, two crew members were disciplined earlier this year for leaving silo blast doors open while they were on duty in an underground facility housing nuclear missiles.

The incidents, first reported by the Associated Press, were confirmed Wednesday by the Air Force.

Under Air Force regulations, a two-man missile launch crew is required to keep the underground blast door shut when one crew member is asleep during the 24-hour shift.

In April a crew member was found "derelict in his duties in that he left the blast door open in order to receive a food delivery from the onsite chef" while the other crew member was on an authorized sleep break, Air Force spokesman Lt. Col. John Sheets said in a statement.

There is some information that the public would be better off not knowing. This is an example.

not surprising to me anymore. Discipline in the military has become a joke.

What's the big deal? He just wanted some fresh air...

Do I really need to add an emote to this to indicate my intent towards sarcasm?

We don't always agree Burm but on this one, I'd say I have to agree with you. I've noticed a general lack of discipline, all around, for maybe the last 5 or 6 years. It's in decline, no question.

I have worked alongside the military since 1986. It started to go into the toilet in the 90's after the drawdown. Those left were the desk jockies and brown nosers and losers in general in the upper ranks. And that has not really changed much. When you see generals right and left doing stupid and illegal things, there is no way that does not trickle down.

Well, I agree but if you talk to old timers, they will say that it has been in decline since WWII. I mean, I think that's natural but I think that it has become much more pronounced over the past few years. Not just the military but across the board.

Being that I am in the military I'd appreciate it if you stopped talking bad about the people tasked to defending you freaking freedoms.

Thank you.

Yeah, I don't think the Defense Industry, or by extension the Govt, has defended any freedoms in a long time. Quire the opposite , in fact. Unless, of course, you own Exxon, Halliburton, or Monsanto .

Just like I have the right to request they stop talking bad about the military?

Good job making this a political thread, Denim.
