Michael Jackson vs Elvis Presley

I know we have a wide generation of members on here, who will be remember as the biggest icon? If neither then who do you think we be remember as the biggest?

Elvis, and it's not even close.

I think its close and maybe even a coin flip.

An Apple vs Orange type argument.

Michael sold more albums, but I'll give the nod to Elvis. The lesson is, if you have any kind of connection to Lisa Marie, you're doomed.

Elvis was more of an icon simply because he broke ground in an era that was resistant to his new type of music. Jackson came along during a time when music was looking for something new.

Not trying to take anything away from Jackson, but I think without Elvis, Michael Jackson may not have come along, IMO.

I love Elvis, but MJ was more talented.

That being said, I still say Elvis was a bigger icon.

I think that The Beatles are bigger icons than either Jackson or Elvis, although not by much. It seems like young people will always romanticize the counter-culture movement in the 1960's, so the Beatles will always be relevant. Jackson will end up bigger than Elvis probably, simply because of the overwhelming popularity of his music during a time when media is more easily accessed.

Jimi Hendrix may even be a bigger icon than Elvis, at this point. Bob Marley is probably just a notch behind Elvis.

I think that's true, Elvis' music was definitely more ground-breaking and he paved the way for artists like Jackson. I'm not sure that's enough to make him #1 in the public eye though.

I guess it fun to declare one an all timer.

Fact is: Elvis was best in his time. Michael was best in his time.

No need to declare one the greatest ever.

If we're talking worldwide, no question, MJ.

In the US, it's a coin flip.

There is a simple answer for this. In 20 yrs will people flock to LA or Gary, Ind twice a year to celebrate Michael's birth and death......no.

Elvis is and always will be a bigger icon.

MJ had worldwide appeal. Elvis really didn't if at all. MJ and it's not even close.

To quote "Elvis has left the building." Those visiting graceland have started to dwindle, and I would say it might go up again but not by a lot. I don't know any of my peers or younger who would say Elvis is a bigger icon than MJ. We can spit out MJ's songs and dance move, but Elvis? Just what we know from impersonations. like Charlie Chapman, we know of him, and some of his work, but that's the extent of it.

Elvis never married a Jackson as a publicity stunt to revive his fading legacy.
