Can't really say they're overrated, the Gracies are pioneers of the sport, without them i doubt MMA would be what it is today. That said the sport has evolved a lot since then and a lot of the mystique surrounding the Gracie name is long gone. Good BJJ alone isn't enough to guarantee a win any more

I'll give you that. They helped expose the UFC to the mainstream and Royce showed how skill could overpower brute strength. However the Gracies have always come across as *****s and think that their style is unbeatable. Royce was humbled by Hughes and even tried to say that Hughes beat him using Gracie JuiJitsu when in fact Hughes used wrestling to smash him. Is Royce an all time great fighter, of course. But like you said the sport has evolved and the Gracies refuse to evolve with it. Royler Gracie even blames the 5 minute rounds for the gracie's losses saying that it is not true to the sport and that a JuiJutsu fighter needs time to work his game like a cook cooks his meal.

Fedor needs just join a real company and face real competition.

He only beats up on scrubs now. Wow. Impressive.

Its all about the money. Unfortunately for us Fedor made more fighting for Affliction and makes more money fighting for Strikeforce. If the UFC would give him Co-Promotion he would be in the UFC. I'm not saying that the UFC should give up half their company for one fighter, but Strikeforce was dumb enough to do it.

the last time Fedor was gonna fight a dude with suspicion(sp) regarding steroids(Josh Barnett) the fight got canceled and the company shut down.

and lol at Roger Gracie vs Fedor.

Yet, from what I understand, they've said recently he'd still love to fight Barnett and there would be no expectation of a drug test.

It's him and his groups usual cherry picking and BS. It's pathetic.

Exactly. Strikeforce is stupid. Dana White, and company, rather people like them or not are not stupid enough to give up half the promotion of their company for one money hungry group of hacks who would then spend all their time trying to make sure that the UFC let them cherry pick who Fedor had to fight.

Fedor is a great fighter, always has been, but he simply will never be #1 or the PFP best, IMO, again until he stops letting his people cherry pick tomato cans for him to beat cause they don't want him possibly losing to the real competition at his weight class.

I don't care if it's Barnett, Overheem, someone from the UFC, or where ever as long as he starts fighting tougher competition and stops with all this garbage of fighting over-rated has beens like Tim Sylvia or extremely over-rated pieces of junk like Rogers.

Jon "Bones" Jones is the best fighter no one knows about. I dont know why they keep him from the big fights. If anyone can beat Anderson Silva I think it will be him.

Touche'

Except when I first saw this thread, what two weeks ago, given some of his other posts I thought he was posting this up as official rankings. I didn't realise, to start with, that it was his opinion and wanted other opinions.

My bad. :)

Not sure when he fights again. It's coming up soon I'm sure but I can't say that I know for sure when.

The next fight i'm super interested in is Lesnar vs. Carwin on July 3rd.

Heavyweight

1.) Fedor
2.) Carwin
3.) Overeem
4.) Lesner
5.) Velasquez

--This is all just opinion based stuff but Fedor has repeatedly beaten guys much larger than him and also smaller, quicker guys. Lesner has a very shallow fight resume and is coming off of a more serious illness than any of the other guys have ever dealt with. People underestimate how quick and powerful Fedor is with his right cross but also his ability to absorb punishment to pull off submissions.

Light Heavyweight

1.) Shogun
2.) Machida
3.) Bones Jones
4.) Mousasi
5.) King Mo

--Rampage needs to get in friggin shape if he wants back on this list. Evans needs to develop a chin. Even in his win over Rampage he was nearly knocked out by one punch.

I know Mo beat Mousasi but I think Mousasi has a better all-around game and would win a 3 fight series... at least right now. Mo is very raw in everything but his takedowns.

Middleweight

1.) Vitor
2.) Spider
3.) Shields
4.) Sonnen
5.) Wandy

--Silva needs to stop playing and just fight. Vitor would be willing to trade punches with him... that's a fight that really needs to happen.

Welterweight

1.) GSP
2.) Shields
3.) Fitch
4.) Alves
5.) Kos

GSP is the best in his weight class by a tremendous margin. He can box with just about anyone but doesn't need to. His wrestling is superior to all but Shields and he'd easily outbox Shields.

Lightweight

1.) Edgar
2.) Melendez
3.) Penn
4.) Alvarez
5.) Ben Henderson/Maynard

**Penn is far too inconsistent to deserve a top ranking. Penn=Rampage.
Edgar deserves the top ranking even if it may not last very long. Melendez is probably the best of these guys. He has outstanding activity level, conditioning, toughness and wrestling. He also owns a dominant win over Aoki.

Featherweight

1.) Aldo
2.) Manny Gamb.
3.) Bib
4.) Mike Brown
5.) Faber

It's Aldo and the underlings here for sure. Then again that was what it was when Brown beat Faber and with Faber before that....

Bantamweight

1) Faber
2) Cruz
3) Benavides
4) Bowles
5) Jurgenson

Faber at 1? Well, yea. His wrestling at this weight will be enormous and he has a chin and sharp striking.

He is being protected by DW for some reason.
Bones is the real deal to be sure.

He flat out destroyed Hamill and Vera, both gate keeper types and now he fights the Janitor....

Silva isn't a top flight 205 guy. He'd be crushed by Shogun and Machida. He admitted he'd struggle versus Machida as they train together.

Silva really has made himself a joke with his forced counter strike style. He is so dominant at 185 that he should initiate action and just finish instead of being a donkey.
