I keep telling people I'm not an expert and I'll add that I really don't have time to follow college football. So you are correct, I am simply looking at the #'s. In fact, the only football I have time to watch is the Dallas Cowboys and the occasional youtube analysis. BUt I also have a family and responsibility, so, no, you're not going to get hardcore analysis from me. If you are looking for that, perhaps you should try twitter or Mickey Spagnola. I think you two would get along famously.

Ok and that's perfectly fine. Nothing wrong that, and good for you for having your priorities straight. And if you said this earlier I apologize because I didn't see it. But you have to admit it's a little silly that you are arguing for or against guys you've never actually watched play.

You Don't think Kareem Martin fits the role of a 4-3 DE?

Sure there are more tweeners in this years draft that most would view playing as a 3-4 OLB or a situational pass rusher. However there are more than 2-3 players who could play a conventional 4-3 DE even if it takes them time to grow into the role.

The problem is getting quality players for that position and I don't know if any of those players are guaranteed to be good to great DEs in the NFL...even clowney with all of his natural abilities has a bust potential due to his mental makeup and over hype of his play vs his athletic ability.

TM1119 provided a link where I could get the 10 yard info, and as it turns out, you may be right. Kareem Martin very well may fit the mold afterall.

One interesting note off the off-season has been they may try Bruce Carter as a nickel pass rusher.
If a guy is a tremendous quick twitch athlete but gotten too big to run 20 yards with RBs that may be a nice fit for him.

I expect us to be rotating DEs much more than last year. Ware/Selvie/Hatcher played wayyy too many plays.
Hayden did as well but that's because he should be a 15 play a game guy.
Yes, Carter rushing would be interesting; although, I think that was just Broaddus' own idea but got reported that the Cowboys were planning to definitely do it.

DE would be a much simplier position for a guy that seems to be a slow learner. I don't know if they would try him as a DE in the Nickel or just give him blitz opportunities at LB. They did give Wilber some pass rush opportunities from the SLB spot.

As it turns out, I have watched Lynch play, and wasn't crazy about him, but saw potential for him as a 7th rounder, maybe, as early as the 6th. I would agree with my doing this being silly only if I were actually a scout paid to influence decisions on who to draft. The reality of this situation is through discussion and reading peoples responses, I learn something new almost every day about the sport I love at my own pace.

By the way, I took the chart you directed me to from Waltersfootball and pasted it into an excel worksheet. I then sorted it to represent the players who 1st ran the fastest 10 yard split, then fastest cone drill, then highest bench, then vertical jump.
Kareem Martin placed at the top of the list, even over Clowney, who came in 2nd. Behind these guys in order: Zach Moore, Larry Webster, Marcus Smith, Howard Jones, Aaron Donald, Chris Smith, Jackson Jeffcoat, James Gayle, Kerry Wynn, Scott Crichton, Jonathan Newsome, Demarcus Lawrence, William Clark, Kasim Edabli, Kony Ealy, Cassius Marsh, etc.

His 10 yard time does not match what I see in game footage. He just does not look quick off the snap.

His 10 is 1.53 which is elite but he just does not look like he has elite quickness.

My links would be walter football and draftbreakdown.

I don't think he was asked to show that bust much unfortunately. He was rarely asked to lineup on the outside of the tackle and pin his ears back.

He has all of 2 chances to do that in this game. 1 at around 3:25 where he forces the QB to step up and then the other at 3:45 where he shows a nice burst forcing the OT back on his heels and then bull rushing him into the QB.

I don't think Martin is ever going to be an elite sack artist in the NFL, but I think he will be a good pass rusher (7-10 sacks a year) who also plays the run well. That seems like a good value in the 2nd to me, but I'm hoping there will be a better DE option available in the 2nd if we miss out on Barr.

Trade 2nd for 3rd, 4th and 6th.

I didn't get the WDE that I wanted early so I just loaded up with physically talented DEs in the later rounds and UDFAs.

1 Aaron Donald DT
3a Billy Turner OT/OG
3b Trai Turner OG
4a Walt Aikens CB
4b Kevin Norwood WR
5 Brandon Thomas OG/OT
6 Aaron Lynch DE
7 Howard Jones DE (Nickel pass rush specialist, might play SLB on base downs)
7 Ken Bishop DT (3 or 1 tech)
7 Zack Kerr DT (1-tech)
7 Isaiah Crowell RB
7 Trey Millard FB
7 L'Damian Washington WR

UDFA Shaquille Richardson CB
UDFA IK Enemkpali DE
UDFA Elhadji Ndiaye DE (super athletic with length)

Great draft, best I've seen yet. Really like Lynch in the 6th, although I think he's going earlier (4th) and I like aikens, jones, bishop and Kerr a lot. The OL would be dynamite and the DL improved, good job walker.

I like Martin better than Ealy.
