After losing the Defensive Coordinator title he is now the Assistant Head Coach of Defense. What does that even mean haha :D

I'm going to make a serious guess and say he's still around to help with the overall gameplans from week to week with Marinelli, but it's RM who's in control of his D.

Basically a glorified position with no real power to do anything or get anything done other than hold RM's ear from time to time and have some lemonade.

Other teams have done similar things in the past. This isn't news , nor should it be a reason to pile on the team either.

Has there ever been a subject not suitable for the Cowboys to be piled on about?

Maybe that's not the question to ask. Nothing is beyond criticism, so people will act in turn. However, is it necessary to criticize any topic ad nauseam? Is there a stage where people stop and tell themselves enough is enough? Horses are beaten into paste and sledgehammers keep striking pavement, so the answer must be no.

I think it is just a glorified title so RM would stay. If we would have just fired Kiffen, RM would have probably walked as well.

It's been all part of JG putting his stamp on this team. He's carefully though out the need to continually shuffle titles, coordinators, assistant head coaches so as to keep the division foes on their heels. 6 coordinators in three years is no accident, it's the process.

Lol at the thought of horses beaten into paste.

Pretty sure RM was under contract and could not have just walked. I think the title is a respectful way to prevent Kif from having to retire a great career following one of the worst defensive preformaces ever.

Meanwhile the process for the division foes on their heels includes division titles.

I think MK is there as a Tampa-2 mentor for all the coaches, JG included. To take it one step further, I think this was the plan all along, as ive stated in earlier threads. I think the plan was to have the architect of the defense install it year one, then have his best student, Marinelli, run it in year 2 while he mentors the other coaches. I seriously doubt the Cowboys hired Kif as a long term solution as DC at the age of 73. But keeping him on as a mentor/consultant, it could create an air of stability and continuity on the defensive side of things. Maybe we end up with several "Marinelli's" as the other coaches start to understand the nuances of this defense, as taught by the architect of it. I dont know that you get too many chances to learn a defense or offense from the person who created it. MK is coaching the coaches. But that's all speculation and hopeful thinking.

Couldn't have said it better but I will add that it's pathetic to pile on one of the more respected coaches in the league. If you're going to pile on him then you have to go after Marinelli, too. You can't drive on four flat tires even if you're Sterling Moss.

There are many teams in the league running a hybrid Tampa 2 and that's what they want to run here. Both Marinelli and Kiffin know how to coach it. It probably does mean keeping Marinelli around but I see that as a plus not a negative. I like Marinelli being loyal, too. But I tend to agree they were going to keep Kiffin around a year or two from the get go.

Which we all know is the new Super Bowl, right? Cowboys fans would be super happy with just winning the division over and over and never making it to the big one, right?

Next it'll be how many pre-bye wins we have to judge the success of the team. Then it'll be "well, our division foes are winning more preseason games."

...wait that last one already happens.
