Lots of cooks in the kitchen with a bunch of titles, kind of tough to figure out who is accountable for what.

Not really only 1 HC all responsiblity falls to him. HC is accountable for offense, defense and special team his assistant coaches victories and failures fall to the HC.

Ultimately, sure. But what's the dynamic on a day to day? And it's the same on offense, we have assistant head coach Callahan, offensive coordinator Linehan.

I'm not there for the daily installation meetings, etc., but that seems like a huge committee.

OL players will be working with Callahan, Linehan will oversee the entire offense, Marinelli will oversee defense. As for Kiffin his role will be diminished to an extent but given the working and personal relationship of Marinelli and Kiffin I don't see it as an issue. Ultimately though it all will fall back on Garrett.

I think MK is there as a Tampa-2 mentor for all the coaches, JG included. To take it one step further, I think this was the plan all along, as ive stated in earlier threads. I think the plan was to have the architect of the defense install it year one, then have his best student, Marinelli, run it in year 2 while he mentors the other coaches. I seriously doubt the Cowboys hired Kif as a long term solution as DC at the age of 73. But keeping him on as a mentor/consultant, it could create an air of stability and continuity on the defensive side of things. Maybe we end up with several "Marinelli's" as the other coaches start to understand the nuances of this defense, as taught by the architect of it. I dont know that you get too many chances to learn a defense or offense from the person who created it. MK is coaching the coaches. But that's all speculation and hopeful thinking.

I been saying this all along too. Great post.

As for the OP...it means absolutely nothing...or it means he is a 'consultant".

Not that unusual and forget the titles. There are a lot of people involved in the game plan. Parcells had a run coordinator and a passing coordinator.

It's probably the most destructive element of the two Jerry-in-charge phases of the post Landry era. As inept as I think Jason is, he doesn't stand a chance to prove his critics wrong in this distributed power framework where nobody can ever be seen as a challenge to the GM.

Other teams have done similar things in the past. This isn't news , nor should it be a reason to pile on the team either.

I'm trying to think of examples of legendary coordinators of Monte's stature being pressured to leave after a disastrous performance, being replaced by their former subordinate and then being retained to somehow mentor the unit that they were just essentially fired from.

Pretty much. Anyone else suggesting otherwise need only look around this very forum to see where all the blame falls.

I'm going to make a serious guess and say he's still around to help with the overall gameplans from week to week with Marinelli, but it's RM who's in control of his D.

Basically a glorified position with no real power to do anything or get anything done other than hold RM's ear from time to time and have some lemonade.

Why would you want Marinelli in charge - when Kiffin is the Master who taught Marinelli about football?

There is more than one coordinator, many assistant coaches but there is only 1 HC, all work under him. People trying to claim there is no responsiblity BS it falls to the HC be in Dallas or a college or high school team. The role of the HC is to oversee the entire team their failures are his failures
