Holland was our 5th round pick at guard. Whatever you thought about Herman, Duke or any other guard challenging for a spot, think more with Holland. Then think more possibility.

If Vela's scout said that, then I should trust Vela's sources left. My eyes told me a totally different story

There's no doubt that we will have a better run blocking line with Holland rather than Kosier. Holland is a bruiser. He wins the job this year. Kosier can back up the guard spots and if he could play center, then we could cut Proctor's sorry arse.

I have Holland penciled in as a starter.

He's just better than Kosier.

I thought I saw a Column by JJT that said Brewster would be tried a Tackle first as a long term replacement for Flo.

I just hope Holland comes in to camp in tip top shape. That was partly why Denver decided to part ways with Holland. I remember reading a lot of Denver fans felt like by years end in 07 that Holland was playing the best on that line, but come training camp and Holland had eaten himself out of a starting job.

Looking at the films they have on him, I'd say that's the case. He absolutely needs to get stronger, but his technique is very solid and he has quick feet. The strength part, though, is very important. He needs to work on that.

I don't know much about anything...but this I agree with!

Why he's here is beyond me? Maybe it's to keep the band togeather?

Here we go again. All last off season most people were ready to cut Kosier until he got hurt then he became the missing link. Kosier is our best option at LG. We played our best games when he was in the lineup. If he's healthy he will be the starter at LG.

We played our best games with him, and it wasn't even close. Kosier goes out last year, and the OL suffers, more than 95% of the posters on this site would ever have anticipated. Popular conclusion: time to replace Kosier.

He's not big enough and the reports I've seen say he will play guard...

That was draft day BS. It is pretty much accepted he is moving to guard.
Holland was just so much more solid then proctor was it was pathetic that the staff would not play Holland until so late in the season.

I like Holland, and I think that if he beats out Kosier, than that is great for our depth, because we all know how well Kosier can play, so that hopefully would mean that Holland is playing even better. I think the main reason Proctor is on the team is because of his versatility, unfortunately it is mediocre performances at multiple positions.

He will. He's in Dallas now.

Thats the one thing we've been great at since Bill got here.

Our team will be in shape.

People are ignorant about Kossier and Proctor. Kossier is the clear starter at LG; Holland is the clear backup. He was brought in for that and couldn't get on the field right away at HIS position. So it wasn't Kossier's injury that forced Proctor into the starting lineup at LG, it was Holland's inability to fill in right away. So Dallas had to plug in Proctor - A CENTER - at LG. And now people want to blame Proctor for not playing LG well? I seem to remember days long ago when our Pro-bowl C, Gurode, was moved from C to G and played like, well, like Proctor. Everyone wanted to cut him then. Thank Goodness Dallas wised up and moved him back to C instead. And thank Goodness that Dallas extended Proctor's contract, basically to move him back to the backup C spot. And thank Goodness that Holland eventually learned the playbook last year to finally back-up Kossies at LG on the filed. And most of all, thank Goodness that Kossier's injury is not serious and that he will be starting again, because the guy before him had that nagging little back-thang going that helped makr the rest of the OL a liability. Or don't people remeber that either?

Wisdom has spoken - we can close this thread now!

I don't know if Holland will beat out Kosier but I hope to see a good battle from both of them as they compete for the job.

Herman Johnson is a bum. A large bum. I'm actually quite happy we didn't draft him. Size != great offensive lineman.

I'd open up the job for certain.

But if that's the case, I believe Kosier would win anyways as long as he is fully recovered and doesn't break his foot again. And probably without a bunch of effort.

As for Holland, I think far too much is being made of his play last year. He did a credible job (i.e. he wasn't as bad as Proctor), but where people are getting he's going to simply step in and relegate Kosier to the bench is really odd. He was a barely above average player in New Orleans and Denver who tended to eat himself out of jobs. He'll have to do more than simply look better than Proctor for me to think he's going to play above the level he's established his whole career. The main thing to his benefit is that he's a Houck-type. But Kosier is much more technically sound and I'll take that every day of the week.

If you have the opportunity to go back and watch his run blocking and compare it to Kosiers.

When he got his hands on people they moved.

Im a Kosier fan and I even liked him when 95% of this board wanted him gone but Holland is just a more physically gifted player and last year it translated onto the field in the short time he was out there.

Also I think Kosier would give us a lot as a back up considering his versatility to play every position but center.

And who exactly did he "move"? He had one start against Seattle and didn't even finish the Pittsburgh game. He'll have to prove it more.

Holland's bigger and stronger. When he's "on", he's a better run blocker. But beyond that, he's not appreciably better, nor has he shown that consistency over the course of his career. He flashed briefly last year, but I want to see more and I am sure the coaches probably do as well.

Also I think Kosier would give us a lot as a back up considering his versatility to play every position but center.

And if he loses out to Holland, fair enough. I just don't think he will.

I agree and a lot of that has to do with his conditioning.

The great thing about Dallas is we will have our players conditioned as well as any team in the league.

We hit on that early and thats why I think we get the most out of some talented free agents that never really took that next step with their former organisation.

It wouldn't shock me at all if Kosier starts and im sure he'll be the front runner going in. But if Holland is in shape than I just don't think Kosier has the physical abilities to hold him off.

I'm not advocating for one player over the other. I would simply state that both are vastly better than Procter, who shouldn't be on an NFL roster.

But I think that Holland did a great job last year and was a more physical presence in the running game.

He didn't give the line the flexibility and pulling option that Kosier did, but I think he was better straight ahead.

And I think Kosier would be ideal in a jack-of-all-trades, swing lineman role. It's just too bad that he doesn't play center as well.
