If - big if, they do decide to bring Hardy back - and if he would sign. I would be all for it at this stage, but man, what a slap in the face for this FO, Garrett and hardy himself.
They have made it very evident they did not want to bring him back at all, all the rumblings out of Dallas about all the things that he did and didn't do. So now if they are forced to eat crow and re-sign him.
At least it would present a short term fix for not having to take Bosa or Buckner at # 4, and allow us maybe to grab a 2nd round DE. (My god, a 3rd second round DE in 3 years ?) Last year after the season, off-season and draft, I was so pumped that we had finally turned that proverbial corner. Now if see us struggling to just fill our roster with the same needs year after year.
No wonder I'm so pessimistic all the time : (

its becoming more and more of a possibility we will have to look at the draft.... Bosa or Buckner.

Danielle Hunter was a guy that myself (and some others on the board), liked quite a bit...and he had a very solid rookie season with 33 tackles, 6 sacks, & 1 FF. Said to have solid off-field character as well.

Last offseason, I might have been the leader of the sign Jabaal Sheard club (8 sacks, 4 FF's in 2015).

Lawrence, Sheard, & Hunter...could have been a nice young trio at DE going forward.

2015 rookie sack leaders: http://www.draftseason.com/nfl-rookie-info/ds-nfl-rookie-stats/

1. Preston Smith DE, Washington Commanders – 8
2. Danielle Hunter DE, Minnesota Vikings – 6
3. Zadarius Smith OLB, Baltimore Ravens – 5.5
4. Bud Dupree OLB, Pittsburgh Steelers – 4
5. Eric Kendricks LB, Minnesota Vikings – 4
6. Hau’Oli Kikaha OLB, New Orleans Saints – 4
7. Shane Ray OLB, Denver Broncos – 4
8. Lorenzo Mauldin DE, New York Jets – 4
9. Markus Golden OLB, Arizona Cardinals – 4
10. Leonard Williams DE, New York Jets – 3.5

Smith was a 2nd round pick...and Hunter a 3rd round pick.

Interestingly:
Mike Neal (4 sacks in 2015)
Andre Branch (4 sacks in 2015)
Jack Crawford (4 sacks in 2015)

Not sure Neal & Branch offer the versatility Crawford does...and sack production was the same despite Neal starting 15 games, Branch starting 9 games, and Crawford starting 1 game. Branch is 26...Crawford is 27...and Neal is 28.

Chris Long has been a shell of his former self the past couple of seasons...missing quite a bit of time. He can't help the club from the tub. With the Pats, he'll likely be a b/u behind Ninkovich & Sheard.

Unfortunately, Vernon may have set the market crazy high in terms of what good, but not great, edge players command. Giving him more guaranteed money than Watt is crazy IMO. Malik Jackson's contract was out there as well. It's speculated that possible future contract demands could be one reason the Pats traded Jones in the final year of his deal. The Williams deal looks decent for the Dolphins...but they lost their 2 younger DE's (Vernon & Shelby), and also Miller.

Yeah, let's follow up one mistake by making two more.

Now that we've missed out on Long, let's panic and overpay to retain an average player in Jack Crawford.

I don't see why one would take that stance. Clearly Crawford is not a starter and should not be paid as such, but what successful team does not have average players on it?

Chill out. Why the panic? "I just ate a Giant" Hatcher is still available.

Just a few years ago people were on the ledge about to jump because of the OL. Install Fredbeard and Martin and problem solved.

I'd rather go into the draft with Gimme playing DE and stick to BPA than draft a DE out of need.

Can anyone truly say they had a plan for the DL?

It was relatively simple if we didn't sit on our hands. First day of FA, and with plan to move Byron to FS, Church/Wilcox gone. Resign mo, Carr's gone. After Tyron Restructure which would have happened regardless, you've now freed up an extra 20 mill under the cap.

Pick between Ayers/Williams. Get Thornton in here. Sign a Carroll/Hayward and bring in Nelson on a 1 year deal.

None of these are blockbuster moves.

But the mouth breathers will try and ensure you that you're supposed to just let the FA period pass you by, when it's actually completely false.

Long reportedly signed for 1 year, 2 million.

I'm beginning to think Bernie Sanders' minimum wage increase would effect our FA spending.

Too rich for our blood.

We offer $7.25 an hour, minimum wage in Texas. You have to earn it here.

We are also willing to pay $5 an hour under the table.
