Moore: With faith in Joseph Randle dwindling, Cowboys could have big running back shakeup

"I think we're always evaluating,'' head coach Jason Garrett said. "It will happen naturally with Lance being out. We'll look at it in practice and games and we'll look at what we're asking guys to do.''

What the Cowboys have asked their backs to do these last two games without quarterback Tony Romo and Dez Bryant has worked.

Until it hasn't.

The dichotomy: the Cowboys have 200 more yards rushing in the first half of the last two games than they have in the second. Randle has gained 117 yards on the ground in that span in the first half and lost four yards in the second.

That's not a misprint. Randle's eight second half carries have lost yardage during this losing streak.

If you take the entire season into account, Randle has 23 carries for 43 yards after halftime. He has touched the ball only twice in the fourth quarter this season, an indication the coaches don't trust him with the outcome in doubt.

This was reinforced in the overtime loss to the Saints. Eight days after the Garrett told Randle not to leave his feet in an attempt to score at the goalline, the running back did it again in the first half of Sunday night's game.

The stat about his 4th quarter carries is telling...not trustworthy clearly.

I'm not bailing on him yet.

He's a good runner when given opportunity. I don't know why he's in the doghouse so badly.

Its has to do more with him being not reliable mentally. Off field issues as well as on the field antics/ bad decisions.

IRVING -- Joseph Randle appears to be the rare running back who loses the faith of his coaches the more he scores.

What this means for his role in the Cowboys' committee approach is under review.

Pinning the team's second consecutive loss on Randle is patently unfair. His performance isn't the sole reason the Cowboys did something no other team has done since October of last season, which is lose to New Orleans at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Mounting injuries and defensive shortcomings ignited this downward spiral.

But the ground game, headed by Randle to this point, has done nothing to brake the slide. His dysfunctional blend of productivity and unreliability symbolizes what the Cowboys must fix in this rotation.

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar will have season-ending surgery for torn left ACL
  • For 2nd consecutive week, Dallas Cowboys pay for having incorrect number of players on field
  • Brandon Carr is 'not OK' with the Cowboys start, would have 'never imagined being 2-2 right now'
  • Morris Claiborne feels better than he's ever felt since entering the NFL
  • Randy Gregory jokes about his Madden rating, says he's better than Amari Cooper

It has more to do with teams adjusting to our running plays and the pace of them by the 2nd half.

Happened against ATL and it carried into NWO.

McFadden is terrible.

I think we use Randle with a bit of Michael in the 1st half and if things change by the 2nd you give a heavier dose of Michael who is more of a bruiser anyways.

If there is, indeed, anything at all resembling a "shakeup," I doubt if it will be anything astounding nor dramatic. Perhaps Randle will get fewer carries and C-Mike will get more than one. Other than that, nothing to really write home about. There really aren't that many alternatives to make the changes anything too dramatic. DMC really hasn't been doing much lately to warrant changing the extent of his participation, imho.

The disappearing act begins after each half and tickets to the show are compliments of the magician. Your seat is reserved.

I just wrote this in another thread...its time....Randle is nothing more than a very serviceable change of pace back. This OL needs a meat grinder running behind them the entire game not a meat slicer...where's the beef!

I think this is getting blown way out of proportion.

The man did score a touchdown after all.

If a player is aware of where the goalline is and puts the ball out there and scores then he did his job. I understand it was close and the alternative could have been a disaster but it's not like he has had a problem fumbling the ball trying to score on the goalline and it happens all the time.

This team has bigger fish to fry. I'm more ticked at how this team still doesn't seem to know when to call a timeout in a ballgame.

When the coaching staff tells you not to do something, multiple times, and you still do it, that's a problem. Even if you think the coaches are completely and utterly wrong, it's not a player's job to decide what's best for the team or not. And if you watch some of the players, they weren't pleased with Randle either on the sideline.

Randle is clearly a Grade A knucklehead.

And frankly, he's not a good enough TB that you look past the fact he's a dumb****.

You don't know why he's in the doghouse?

That's because that red headed guy with that stupid grin told him not to score on the goaline. That red headed guy has been taking down notes from that genious Tom Coughlin.

Defenses are giving Weeden and the WRs every opportunity to really make them pay for overloading the box in the second half. They just aren't doing it.
Murray pretty much never saw loaded boxes like this last year because the even bigger threat was Romo and Dez torching the defense. On the rare occasion that they did very temporarily load the box, the Cowboys capitalized.

Get used to this. Defenses will start out somewhat honestly, but if the run game succeeds at all, they will challenge Weeden. The WRs have to beat man coverage and he has to deliver.

And the red headed guy is probably right. The fact he got a TD doesn't change the fact what an incredibly dumb and stupid play that was. It's like saying a QB made a great play throwing into quadruple coverage and the four defenders all bat the ball around like a hot potato and it lands in the arms of the WR standing in the endzone.
